The Experience

Families will be very happy here with plenty of space in the sitting room with its big shelves full of books, toys and games. A wood-burning stove (logs provided) keeps you warm, you’re guarded by a civil war suit of armour (the owners are passionate about the history of this area) and surrounded by bold colours and local art.

The kitchen is very well equipped with all the basics for cooking and a generous welcome hamper with bacon, eggs, bread, biscuits and wine. You eat at the beautiful oak table in the separate dining room with a fire blazing on chilly evenings. Or saunter down to The Blacksmith Arms and have a pint while the children play in the village field.

You have your own private walled garden at the back, a sun-trap during the day, and with table, chairs and a family-sized barbecue.  Explore God’s own country then sleep peacefully in neat-as-a-pin bedrooms with plush beds and garden views.

Reviews

Yew Tree Cottage was perfect for our family birthday get together. We loved "staying in" in this gorgeous cottage, cooking together in the kitchen, sitting down together in the dining room, or playing games and chatting in the sitting room. The bedrooms and beautiful bathroom were perfect to escape to for quiet relaxing "me" time. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and have a spacious yet wonderfully warm and cosy feel. Equally it was a great base to explore from. We visited Malton (amazing ice-cream cafe!), Whitby, St Hilda's Abbey and the 199 steps, and York. We were very sad to leave!

Carol, Maidenhead

Very stylish, clean and well-equipped cottage, we had loads of space and really enjoyed time in every room. It was great opening the curtains each morning to such a sunny view and the birds singing!

Susan, London

We have thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at Yew Tree Cottage in Westow and would highly recommend it. The cottage is extremely comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Many thanks for the amazing welcome hamper of goodies once again Natasha & Paul and for the ease re securing this booking. Great location & amazing pub just a few doors up as well!

Paul, Godalming, Surrey

Stunning cottage. Very clean. Exceptionally cosy. Has everything you need. We travelled with 2 young children and it was such a relief to travel without bulky child items (cots, high chairs, crockery, games etc) as everything you need for children is provided. Top marks to Natasha for the attention to detail. Fab welcome hamper - I tried contacting the owner via phone and email to request an extra pint of milk ahead of our stay but didn’t hear back -that would be my only suggestion for improvement. Otherwise, it really is a fabulous cottage and you will feel very rested by the time you leave

Lena, Birmingham

A tastefully decorated, well equipped and very comfortable cottage. We'll located for access to many towns and beautiful countryside.

Sandra, Cirencester

This is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a beautiful rural setting, but not far from towns, cities or the seaside. We really enjoyed exploring the area and were happy to return to the place every day .

P, Manchester

Had a very enjoyable week in this clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage. Fantastic, quiet location, with great pubs nearby and lots of walks from the door. Highly recommend.

Rachel, Leicestershire

Yew Tree Cottage is delightful and Westow a lovely village. Our arrangements to stay were quite last-minute but very efficiently managed by the owners. The cottage was immaculate and a lovely welcome pack awaited us. The local pub serves great food and is only a short stagger away. Top marks all round.

Robert, Bristol

As soon as we walked in through the door of Yew Tree Cottage we felt at home! Aromatic natural hand sanitiser greeted us along with a sparkling clean cottage, quality furnishings and a lovely welcome hamper. So Covid-19 secure, even the welcome advice leaflets were placed inside plastic sheets in small ring binders. Home from home and in such a peaceful setting with a great pub just a couple of doors away. We will be returning if not just to enjoy the well designed garden area.

Wendy, Bury St Edmunds

A lovely, well-presented stone cottage in a pleasant village location. A perfect base for exploring some attractive towns (notably, Helmsley and Malton), beautiful countryside (eg the Howardine HIlls) and unspoilt beaches at Filey Bay. The cottage itself has been lovingly updated, was clean and very well-equipped. An efficient log burner with a generous supply of logs ensured that the cottage was warm and cosy on colder evenings. Highly recommended.

Geoff, Chichester

A lovely medieval village and a very comfortable cottage to enjoy it all from. Great to have an excellent pub two doors away and the food capital of Yorkshire, Malton just four miles. Stock up with great local food and return to an excellent kitchen or a barbecue in the garden.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are walking paths from this medieval village straight into the Yorkshire Wolds and an AONB. Malton - a market town and the food capital of Yorkshire - is a 10-minute drive for restaurants, cafes, a big farmers' market and artisan food. There are still livestock sales in the street during the week. You're 25 minutes from York, near the Moors and Dales, and the coast is under an hour.

Local points of interest from Natasha McCabe

  • Fast, reliable, free wifi. No parking restrictions

  • Close to Castle Howard, Kirkham Priory, historical York. A perfect base for exploring the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Wolds and the Coast

Introducing

Natasha McCabe

Natasha is from Australia but has lived over here for a long time. Her husband Paul is from Whitby and they both love this village and the cottage - they lived here themselves while they were doing the restoration. They've moved back to London now because of work but this is still their holiday home and they are happy to share it.
