The Experience
Come for windswept family walks along miles of pebble beach, or take the road to Culzean Castle, high above the Firth of Clyde. Return to toasty floors and wood-burners, plump mattresses and kitchens that are a delight to work in. The cottages are independent but close enough for one bigger party and there’s a table for 12 in the largest.
Fisherman’s Cottage is just that and it’s a lovely renovation; the other two are attractive eco-builds. All three sit a ten-minute walk from untouristy Ballantrae (shop, post office, pub), a stroll from the old harbour, with safely fenced gardens from which you can sniff the sea. Interiors are spacious, fresh and fabulous, with themed furnishings and very comfortable beds. Views soar all the way to Arran on clear days.
Find freshly cut flowers, a box of Scottish shortbread and the first basket of logs for both fires. You’re left games, books, bats and shrimp nets – head for the pebbled beach.

This is our second visit to Beach Cottage and the experience was the same. FABULOUS. The cottage is a dream and wonderfully furnished. You couldn’t get closer to the sea. The furry friend was catered for with a bag of treats when we arrived as were we with shortbread. I just love it here. It’s my happy place.

Location
The neighbourhood
Craigiemains Garden Centre in the village has a good café on the sea front. There are lovely walking paths from the door along the riverside, or you can join the Coast Path for more challenging hikes. Try the hills of Knockdolian or Beneraird for stunning views. Castles and gardens are within a 30 to 40-minute drive, or catch the ferry from Cairnryan for a day in Belfast. Troon and golf are 30 mins.
Local points of interest from Hamish & Emma Dalrymple

- Home of the oldest major - golfers are extremely well catered for in Ayrshire. From the Championship course at Turnberry (only 18 miles away) to the local courses at Stranraer and Girvan.
- Love the stars? Visit the Dark Sky Park at Galloway Forest Park (approx 40 miles) for an amazing experience on a clear night.
- Relaxation? Can't miss out on the gym? Head to Pebbles Spa at Lendalfoot (approx 4 miles) - wonderful treatments and day packages available or pound the treadmill in an idyllic setting overlooking the sea.

Fantastic stay, felt like home from home. Dogs loved the garden and can’t wait to return next year.
