The Experience

The feel is spacious indoors with west-facing dining and sitting rooms leading off a big square hall. Bay windows overlook open countryside, there are squishy sofas and chairs, a merry wood-burner, lots of games and puzzles and a plethora of books about local flora, fauna, birds and history. There is a king sized bedroom on the ground floor, ideal for those with less mobility. From the hallway you can spill out to a raised area with deckchairs in summer – a grand spot for al fresco meals.

Two bedrooms upstairs are very comfortable, with views up the valley, feather duvets and pillows, chintzy curtains and antiques. Ease aching limbs in a bath scented with South West Soaps and relish the view. There are fenced gardens from either door and a lawn for sprawling or games. Wander down to the river for endless watery views and sunny picnics.

Local jam, bread and fresh farm eggs will be waiting in the galley kitchen which has all a cook might need.

We think you'll love

  • Setting off on wonderful walks or cycles from the door, having a picnic by the river, enjoying the freedom of the countryside
  • Buying freshly caught seafood and bringing it back to cook – perhaps outdoors. Summer evenings go on forever up here
  • Lighting the wood-burner in the sitting room and hunkering down on cold wet days, playing games, reading, watching films

Reviews

Nicola, England

We had a wonderful stay. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, with stunning views all around that made our trip even more special. The cottage itself was fantastic—spacious, spotlessly clean, and very well equipped. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and there was everything you could possibly need for cooking meals. There were plenty of clean towels provided, and having access to a washing machine was a real bonus. One of the highlights for us was the secure, fenced-off area for our dogs, which meant they could enjoy themselves safely. We would definitely love to return!

Mary

Fantastic house for a family. Lots of room and beautiful views and walks nearby.

Theresa, Market Drayton

Booked Pinclanty for a special birthday; 4 adults and 2 dogs. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and furnished. The kitchen has everything you need and more. The property was warm with lots of hot water for all of us. Good quality towels and bed linen. Fabulous views of the surrounding countryside from every window. The garden is large and well fenced. Lots of information regarding local places to visit. Would recommend the walking trails in Barr, Culzean Castle and the beaches at Turnberry and Maidens.

Bryony, Great Dunmow

Beautiful place we felt very comfortable and at home. Well equipped with everything we needed including local maps and loads of information on the area. Laura kept us very well informed of any minor changes or issues. The view from the house is stunning!

Jamie

Very nice place, felt very upmarket. Inclusion of optional extras like jigsaws were a nice bonus and there was lots of nice outdoor seating to make use of the views. Beds were very comfortable and having 3 bathrooms was superb. Wifi was fast but didn't quite reach all rooms - but in the grand scheme of things it was no bother at all. Suggested walk was fantastic, very beautiful forest and only a short drive away. Very nice, would visit again

Location

The neighbourhood

You can fish in the river with a permit and have lessons with the ghillie. There is excellent walking and cycling in the Galloway Forest, much wildlife and three visitor centres. It's also a Dark Sky Park for awesome stargazing. The nearest village is Barr, 10 minutes in the car, for a little shop. Girvan, a fishing town, is 20 minutes for a butcher, veg shop, seafood van and new bistro.

Local points of interest from Laura & Jack Warrender

  • Pinclanty Cottage sits at the heart of a working sheep farm. Take a picnic to the banks of the River Stinchar, wander out on to the hills or explore acres of woodland. Nearby Pinclanty Forest has many walking trails and small hill lochs.
  • Not far away is the Galloway Park with its internationally recognised Dark Sky status. Sit out in the evening wrapped in a blanket and watch the stars. They are dazzling.
  • The Carrick coast has a number of large sandy beaches, take the dog for a long walk, or watch the sunset over Ailsa Craig.
  • For golfers, there are the championship courses at Turnberry and Prestwick and local courses at Girvan and Stranraer.
  • Bring your binoculars for there is an abundance of wildlife here between the woods, wetlands and hills. Listen out for cuckoos, owls and oyster catchers. You might spot otters, salmon or newts; and see hares, deer and red squirrels.
  • Farther afield, there are castles, gardens, art galleries, adventure playgrounds and walking trails to be found.
