The Experience
It’s a remote and remarkable spot in spectacular scenery. Off-grid living but with luxury seamlessly woven in: heating and hot water from solar power, a wood-burner fuelled by the estate and filtrated spring water from a private bore. Take one cottage or two – they’re identical, cleverly separated by a spacious boot room with drying and laundry facilities and each with its own terrace.
Nature lovers, dreamers and adventure-seekers will love it here. Head out to comb the beaches on the loch shore, bag a Munro or two, try ice climbing in winter, or mountain biking and kayaking on warmer days. Sit back with a book or spot sea eagles, otters – and sometimes deer in the garden.
There’s a well-equipped kitchen and a double-height, open-plan living space with one bedroom up and one down. Raise your glasses to sunsets – the finest you’ve ever seen, with front-row views from the terrace.

The setting and views at Badan Mhugaidh are stunning. The attention to detail that Jan and Nigel have given, both in the house and the landscape around the property made our stay a very memorable experience. Local walks are delightful and varied. We're so pleased to have had this introduction to such a beautiful part of Scotland.

Just what was needed after months of Lockdown! A wonderful remote location, walks from the door, unsurpassable views, many places of interest to visit by car. To cap it all, Nigel and Jan, have designed perfect accommodation, filled with all the comforts you need. They are perfect hosts, a warm welcome, then quietly in the background, there if you need anything. Thank you both.

Location
The neighbourhood
Here is stunning wilderness, remote and awe-inspiring. Mountain landscapes, deep vast lochs, sweeping glens, thundering waterfalls, ancient settlements and local communities. The circular drive Torridon/Applecross via the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle) and back via the coast road is classed in National Geographic as one of the 10 best drives on the planet. There are several award-winning eateries close to Badan Mhugaidh. Pretty Shieldaig village (2.5 miles) has a small shop open daily and a great seafood restaurant, Coastal Kitchen. Nearby Torridon has small shops/cafés for basic goods and local seafood too.
Local points of interest from Nigel Thomas
- Set in glorious Highland wilderness - awesome scenery, flora, fauna and wildlife. Stunning walks straight from the door from high level Munros to estate tracks to secret coastal paths. Put Torridon mountain-bike trails on your bucket list of must-rides.
- Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures provide a wide variety of sea and land activities - sea kayaking, mountain guide, archery. climbing. Launch your trailer-sailer from a nearby slipway and enjoy an unforgettable sailing area as if it were your very own.
- Some of the most exciting driving on the planet! Mostly single track roads, and two challenging mountain passes that really need to be tried. The Bealach na Bá (Pass of the Cattle) to Applecross and the Bealach na Gaoithe (Pass of the Winds) to Diabaig.
- Take a trip to Applecross for lunch. Reached either by the coast road or the uniquely stunning Bealach na Bá – one of Britain’s highest road passes. National Geographic magazine listed this circular route as one of the top ten scenic drives in the world.
- You're spoilt for choice with a plethora of award-winning eateries around Torridon and the Applecross peninsula. Eat wonderful local sea-food whilst gazing at the ever-changing mountain landscape, or out to sea across the Minch to Skye and the Hebrides.
- Fill the hamper with goodies and take a walk from the house along the stunning Falls of Balgy to picnic at the secret sandy beach amongst the mountains on fresh-water Loch Damph. Wild swimming in the sea loch, river or Loch Damph. Diabaig Dookers Saturdays

Introducing
Nigel Thomas
Jan and Nigel Thomas have put heart and soul into Badan Mhugaidh: every detail had their input, from the ground up. Their house is the old stalker’s cottage also in the grounds at Badan Mhugaidh, so they're always on hand should you need anything. Gracious and unobtrusive, they’ve been welcoming guests since July 2017 and want to show you the best of the area.
Badan Mhugaidh is like nothing else! Stunning location and accomodation that leaves you wanting for nothing, except more time to be there!! Your every travel need has been thought of and provided in five star standard. Local information is tailored to your need, the recommendations from Nigel absolutely on the mark. I cant recommend this place highly enough!
