The Experience
Walkers and artists will be inspired here, but if you’re in need of a bit of cossetting and rest then just come. Martin and Charles effortlessly make you feel at home and have thought of everything for your comfort but are delightfully unobtrusive. Take root in the snug with comfy seating, an honesty bar with single malts galore, fresh flowers, lots of guide books and maps, emergency snacks.
Colours are neutral, artworks are local and there’s a Nordic feel to the decor, inspired by the island’s transformation under the Vikings. In the dining room you’ll find a wine rack, beers and drinks. Here you have sumptuous breakfasts with home-baked breads, muffins and cheesecake, tasty smoked carrot lox, eggs from their hens, homemade marmalade and jams. Snaffle what you like for picnics.
Bedrooms (two downstairs, three up) are peaceful refuges with excellent lighting and well-dressed beds, bathrooms sparkle; the peace is palpable.

Location
The neighbourhood
Skye is the ideal playground for those who like the outdoor life – walking, cycling, visiting waterfalls, fantastic views and much history and culture to discover. Dunvegan (2.9 miles) has a good choice of restaurants including The Old School, and from Easter to October the castle is open to visitors. Borrow e-bikes, explore bays, coves and beaches – Coral Beach is 20 minutes, as is the Stein Inn.
Local points of interest from Martin Sutherland
- Skye is famous for its food - and we’re 20 minutes from three of the best restaurants in Scotland… Edinbane Lodge, Loch Bay, and The Three Chimneys. However, there is so much more to the Skye food scene - check our website for some of our other favourites
- Skye is a fantastic walking and hiking destination - the famous 5 are all within an hour of us, but some of the truly special and quieter hikes are even closer. Visit Walk Highlands online to access their brilliant free guides and maps
- For those wishing to explore our part of the island on two wheels we have two e-bikes available to hire - VOLT Pulse bikes (and stylish Dashel helmets) and are a great option for those seeking a car-free day and to slow the pace down too.
- The Summer months are full of events and celebrations of Gaelic and Highland culture. Everyone is welcome to these - visit our website for an updated list of festivals, events and gatherings. Art trails and studios are featured on the Art Skye website.
- The Museum of Island Life is well worth a visit - particularly for the views to the Outer Isles and for the nearby graveyard where Scottish folk-hero Flora MacDonald and the fashion legend Alexander McQueen are resting (his Dad was from Skye)

Introducing
Martin Sutherland
Martin grew up near Stirling and has a background in the arts; Charles, from Aberdeenshire, has worked in design and education. Interesting and interested, they live in the attached but not connected house next door. They know the island well, are protective of the environment in a gentle way and are happy to engage or leave you to your own devices. This is a deeply considered place to stay.
