The Experience

The excitement builds as you arrive at this 190-acre Duchy of Cornwall estate and spy a pretty quadrangle of 17th-century stone buildings wrapped in scenic views. Renovated along eco-friendly principles, inside is cosy with soft colours, warm lighting and underfloor heating.

Good art and a mix of antiques and contemporary furniture adorn the cottage. Downstairs you’ll find books and board games, a TV and zippy WiFi. Upstairs, three carpeted bedrooms (one en suite, two sharing a bathroom) have Hypnos beds and super fine Egyptian cotton sheets for deep sleeps.

Beyond your small private garden the estate unfolds: meadows, woodland trails, a greenhouse (your welcome hamper includes veg in season). The well-kitted out kitchen is spacious enough for everyone to chop and chat together – stock up at the superb Wright’s Food Emporium (20 miles). Watch kites soar overhead and witness astonishing starry skies.

Reviews

It was hard to leave this beautiful place, the land seems to draw you in and cocoon you. So come and find clarity whilst walking on the wild Cambrian Way. Then return to this ancient complex, sensitively renovated by a very caring owner, to enjoy the calm, elegant spaces with loved ones. There is much to do locally as well, although many never stray too far. A rare place in a dramatic landscape.

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearby Red Kite Feeding Station means there are plenty soaring above the estate but you can also visit here to see them up close from a specially built hide. Nearby towns for pubs, cafés and shops include Llandeilo (ten miles) and Llandovery (four miles) where the Heart of Wales Train line and Trail also passes through. The Cambrian Way is close for sublime walks.

  • Dinefwr - Newton House is a 17th-century manor house with exhibitions and contemporary interventions reflecting on varied aspects of life at Dinefwr, connected to the formal Fountain Garden with the wild Deer Park beyond.
  • Myddfai Community Hall and Visitor Centre Is an energy efficient facility in the heart of the picturesque village of Myddfai, three miles from Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
  • Llyn y Fan Fach is a lake of approximately 10 hectares (25 acres) on the northern margin of the Black Mountain in Carmarthenshire, South Wales and lying within the Brecon Beacons National Park.
  • Cilgwyn Wood - Tucked away in a rural corner of Carmarthenshire, Cilgwyn Wood is very easy to find from Llandovery. This peaceful woodland has a lovely mix of different trees, including large Douglas fir, old beech and spruce.
