The Experience
Thread your way down the winding streets of St Davids, Britain’s tiniest city, to this sturdy stone cottage, one of three. It is the furthest from the road, the closest to the garden, and has the best views, across rooftops and distant hills to Ramsey Island, breeding ground of peregrines and seabirds.
Explore the architecturally fascinating 12th-century cathedral – one of Britain’s finest – tucked in a hollow beside the river. The Bishop’s Palace lies on the other bank, an atmospheric ruin in which Shakespeare’s plays are performed on summer nights.
Hop on a ferry to Ramsey Island from three miles down the road, walk a lazy mile to probe caves and rock pools at Caerfai Bay; surfers will head for Whitesands Bay just below and you can hire kayaks at Abereiddi’s Blue Lagoon. Wander to the pub for supper or fire up the barbecue in the garden on summer evenings.

We have just rebooked to stay in Bwthyn Lil in St. Davids for the tenth year in a row. We love it there! We know St.Davids very well and this is definitely the best location for a holiday in St. Davids. The views from the cottage over the cathedral, the fields and the sea in the background are just amazing. The garden is a real gem, with beautiful plants and flowers. The cottage is very charming and beautifully decorated. There is a very homely feel to the cottage, it's got lots of character. The place is always very clean and tidy and keeps a very high standard.

We have stayed here on a number of occasions. The position is wonderful, with views of the Cathedral and further afield towards the hills and coast. The cottage has been carefully and thoughtfully updated with very good quality appliances and finished to a high standard. It is comfortable and convenient with local support available throughout the stay.

This delightful, stone cottage is tastefully furnished with top-quality, modern appliances, and extremely comfortable beds. In summer, we dine al fresco in the beautifully-maintained garden; in colder weather, we appreciate the efficient heating system and the cosy log-burner. The cottage is right in the centre of St David's, close to shops, restaurants, and two traditional pubs. It has fabulous views of the Cathedral and Carn Llidi in the distance. This, and the other Ty Gwilym cottages, are the best in terms of quality and location, and Dawn, the friendly housekeeper, is on hand to advise.

This is it finally we have found our forever holiday home in st davids. We visit Pembrokshire twice a year to walk the coastal path and have stayed in various places. But that's it - we intend to return to this beautiful cottage every time. Perfect location, parking! A south facing garden for late afternoon drinks, beautifully equipped with white China, bath with endless hot water, divine beds with views each am across to the cathedral spire and the rolling countryside. Quite, with a 5 minute walk to 2 fabulous award winning restaurants, and owners who really care about clients . Superb!

Location
The neighbourhood
The cottages are a minute’s walk from the centre of a city that is charmingly small and unashamedly old-fashioned. Discover craft shops, food shops, restaurants and pubs, including the Farmer's Arms on the same street. The 12th-century cathedral, the finest in Wales, hides down a hill, and wonderful beaches abound – Whitesands, Caerfai, Abereiddi. Coastal walks are a ten-minute drive.
Local points of interest from Hamish Elvidge
- Whitesand Bay is a wonderful sandy beach within five minutes drive and is great for surfing and sandcastles!
- St Davids Cathedral is the focal point of the city and must be visited!
- Great restaurants( for example Morgans and Cwtch) are plentiful in St Davids and the surrounding area.
- A trip around Ramsey Island cannot be missed, to see the seals and, hopefully dolphins!
- Abereiddi and the Blue Lagoon create a very unqiue atmosphere.
- Pothgain is a unique, beautiful harbour, which has a really good restaurant (The Shed) and pub (The Sloop)

Introducing
Hamish Elvidge
The owners are Linda and Hamish Elvidge, and Dawn Hughes is the meeter and greeter. A native of St Davids, she is friendly and informative, and fiercely proud of the three cottages she cleans and the garden she so meticulously tends.
Our fourth visit to this super tucked away cottage albeit in the heart of St Davids - need we say any more. The beautiful property has always been in immaculate condition on arrival, furnished with high end trappings which make it so delightful. It has everything you could ask for - now including a log burner, although tempted to use it we didn't so due to the fine weather. As stated it is in the heart of St Davids, comes with a car parking spot next to the cottage. The views are also breath taking - you can see the tops of both the new and old cathedrals from the cottage gardens. Marvellous.
