The Experience
This gorgeous old house instantly impresses with its calmly decorated interiors and wonderful surroundings. You’ll find an outside yoga platform overlooking the Preseli Hills and a serene spring-fed mill pond for a pre-breakfast dip. Walk along mown tracks through a thousand trees supporting a huge diversity of wildlife and plants, including dragonflies and migrating birds.
Inside is incredibly cosy thanks to a ground source heat pump and efficient insulation. Choose a book from the stunning library, settle on a sofa by the wood-burner, pop an LP on the record player, watch birds. Three bedrooms are upstairs and all have lovely views. Drift off to the sound of owls hooting and wake to overnight oats with chia seeds, live yogurt, homemade compote, eggs, bacon and sausages from a local farm.
On balmy evenings you can sit outdoors with seats and tables for picnics and a cheery fire pit while you watch a myriad of stars appear.

Sue and Adrian were wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they took the time to tell us so much about the area. The breakfasts were the best we have had anywhere. The house has been tastefully renovated and everything has been thought of to make your stay comfortable. We will definitely be back!

We absolutely loved everything about Hen Ffermdy. Sue and Adrian made us really welcome and we immediately fell in love with their beautifully renovated farmhouse. Our room was perfect with every attention to detail and a cosy atmosphere. We started each day with a delicious breakfast before taking advantage of the spectacular walking right on the doorstep. On our first day we set off through ancient woodland to arrive at a windswept bay and head off on the coastal path. It is wonderfully peaceful – you fall asleep to the sound of hooting owls – yet also not far from Pembrokeshire favourites.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're surrounded by farmland and ancient SSSI woodlands – this is the Llanglofan Fen and you're within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, walks are sublime. The nearest shops are in Fishguard (five miles) where you'll find the Gourmet Pig deli; Porthgain is 15 minutes for The Shed and The Sloop. The beautiful beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach are two miles, St David's and the cathedral 10 miles.
Local points of interest from Sue & Adrian Thornberry
- The more secluded northern part of the coastal path is in our view is the most wild and beautiful, with walks to suit a range of abilities such as Abereiddy via the Blue Lagoon to Porthgain, and the most glorious of walks from Pwll Deri to Strumble Head.
- We love to walk straight from the B&B winding through ancient woodland down to the quiet beaches of Aberbach and Abermawr, a favourite place for a quiet swim or a spot of fishing, book ahead with Vaughan at saltwaterflyfishing.com.
- The constantly evolving local food scene ensures an array of the very best fresh local produce from finding the best takeaway seafood platters, crab sandwiches or lobster rolls to farmhouse cheeses and local farmhouse breweries and gin distilleries.
- For an adventurous feast spend a day with Craig’s Coastal Foraging, or try some seaweed coasteering with Real Adventure Co. Or if you are trying to stay dry Voyages of Discovery boat trips from St Justinian’s lifeboat station are always breath-taking.
- Our wild landscape is the perfect home for many artists and crafters which is evident in the abundance of shops & galleries such as Seaforth Design in Solva, Goat Street Gallery in St Davids and many more including those in Fishguard and Newport.
- We have 2 woollen mills nearby, Melin Tregwynt creating gorgeoulsy soft blankets is just 2 miles down the road where you can watch the weavers most days and Solva Woolen Mill famous for its carpet runners, both do a lovely lunch and cakes.

Introducing
Sue & Adrian Thornberry
Adrian and Sue (who worked in interior design as an operations director) moved from London in 2019 and have restored the house sensitively, Adrian doing much of the work himself and with sustainability in mind. They've planted a thousand trees, put up bird boxes and created a grand habitat for nature, which of course just arrives. They're happy to collect you from the station in Fishguard and love to share their home.
We had a fabulous stay at Hen Ffermdy. Sue and Adrian were amazing hosts - the room was beautiful and the breakfasts perfect! The house is lovely and in an ideal area for touring the Pembrokeshire coast. Sue gave us lots of tips for places to eat and things to see and Adrian gave us a tour of the wonderful surroundings and wildlife. We will definitely be back.
