The Experience

In this bucolic setting, much-travelled owners Fabienne and Arnaud and their two small children offer a personal mix of savvy sophistication and traditional ‘Gîte à la Ferme’ where guests can connect with the place: chill out by the pool, feed the animals (including beautiful horses and donkeys), explore the grounds. The classic 17th-century Quercy architecture of curvy rooflines, golden stonework and intricate carpentry frames interiors done in a peaceful country style focusing on natural materials and soft furnishings in neutral colours with interesting antique prints on the walls. The overall feel is contemporary, pared down and comfortable, while brocante finds and original structural elements add depth. Sleek, ultra-modern kitchens are a delight and each gîte has a private garden or terrace. Fresh bread and croissants are delivered every morning, and possibly one of Fabienne’s treats. You can hike or potter, watch birds, enjoy the tranquility of these many acres, or venture further afield to discover the treasures of the Périgord.

Reviews

We stayed for a week in July and couldn't have had a more wonderful time or chosen a better place. Our cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, the grounds and pool are divine. The hosts are incredibly helpful and charming and we wanted for nothing. As animal lovers we appreciated some of the rare breeds, the fantastic horses and how happy and well cared for they all were. All in all a brilliant holiday and a magical spot.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Arnaud Bourgeois

  • The Domaine is conveniently located 20 minutes from Bergerac airport (with several direct flights to UK) and close to an abundance of castles and places of interest to visit: including the towns of Sarlat, Périgueux and the famous Lascaux cave.
  • Enjoy a unique picnic prepared by Fabienne with local delicacies after a carriage ride with the farm horses or go for a peaceful meander downriver through picturesque scenery with canoes available to hire on the Dordogne.
  • Children will love our farm animals: cows, horses, chickens, turkeys and Maguy the sheep dog. Why wouldn't you take our donkeys Fluor and Emaye, for a stroll along one of the bridleways of the property?
  • The region is a gourmet paradise with outstanding restaurants and wonderful lively local farmers’ market every day of the week. Buy vegetables, cheeses, saucisson, foie gras, truffles and presents for home.
  • Le Domaine is 5 minutes from the Pecharmant and Monbazillac wine areas and 40 minutes’ drive from the famous Saint Emilion and Pomerol wineyards of Bordeaux. We can arrange a wine-tasting experience for you.
  • When you get tired of visiting the surrounding villages you will enjoy the heated swimming pool with a fridge to keep your juices cool and your own BBQ to cook your fresh purchase from the markets or from the onsite organic farm
