The Experience

A long drive curls through ancient trees to reveal these elegant 19th-century homes in warm local stone with a terrace made for long, lazy lunches or evening drinks. Inside, you’ll find two fully-equipped kitchens and four living rooms and all within a beautiful four-hectare landscaped park with century-old trees and a big heated swimming pool.

The ten bedrooms are stylish and generous – all have lovely views. Bathrooms are immaculate, most are en suite (one double shares a bathroom with a twin – perfect for families with small children). The pool, tucked into the lawn, is bordered by a potager, greenhouse and friendly hens in a coop. Everything has been thought of: a concierge service, restaurant-standard meals on request, and plenty of crockery and kit for celebratory suppers.

Kids will love the woods and the chooks; grown-ups will revel in the space, serenity and charm of this stylish retreat.

Reviews

A delightful surprise down a little lane. La Chartreuse has French windows from all reception rooms, each of which has a fireplace. Upstairs bedrooms are spacious with amazing views over the gardens and pool. Artworks from around the world abound. Ideal for large groups with plenty of gathering space.
