The Experience

The house, showcase of a French master craftsman, could be ancient but actually is fairly new. The detail required to make it look like a typical old house of the area is second to none, even with the footprints of a cat and chickens in the terracotta floor tiles. Apart from the tower it’s all on the ground floor with three slightly different levels. The big sitting room has two cushion-strewn sofas around a log burner, the dining room end has a lovely long farmhouse table with room for at least 10.

Bedrooms, all with lovely views, are down here apart from the tower room up wooden steps. Each have mostly bare walls, natural materials and are very simple. An electric Aga warms the kitchen which has decent work space. You’re left some local wine and treats.

You’re down a narrow country lane which twists along the bottom of the valley so the feeling is quite remote – there is only one neighbour, but you can walk to the village.

Reviews

Great house in a peaceful location with extensive garden area and dog friendly. Perfect base for us (5 adults and a dog) to relax, whilst being close to the many interesting Bastide towns. Also a good location from which we were able to run and cycle. Owner was extremely attentive and immediately responded to any questions we had. Highly recommend.

Grant, Glasgow

We had a lovely stay at Judah with our children and extended family. It’s remote in the best sense, completely private and a wonderful setting for long dinners overlooking the lake. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Franky, London

Our family of 9 enjoyed a relaxing stay. The rural environment provided a quiet relaxing holiday, with none of the group wanting or needing to leave for the duration. The host was attentive to our needs.

Andrew, Sussex

A peaceful haven in deepest countryside. Extensive grounds are surrounded by trees, but you can walk to the local boulangerie and buy daily baguettes. The children were able feed the donkeys next door when not playing in the lovely pool. A wonderful fortnight in a really charming house. Beautiful Beaumont, Villareale, Monpazier and Issigeac are all a short drive. Canoeing was great with picnic spots along the rivers. There are safe cycle routes too, with stunning chateaux views. We had a wonderful fortnight and would certainly return. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous French home with us.

Katherine, Surrey

Lovely property set back in an amazingly tranquil environment. Pool and lake are perfect ways to cool off in the summer sunshine. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a serine break away.

What a beautiful French holiday setting; a wonderful traditional Dordogne farmhouse, with huge oak beams and massive fireplace. An expansive garden with lake and views towards distant horizons, together with a pool for the children to enjoy. We sat out in the evenings with a glass of wine, a fire pit ,whilst watching stunning red sunsets through the trees. Such a quiet, peaceful retreat, and yet surrounded by the Bastide towns of Montpazat, Eymet and Villarreal, together with easy access to the historic sites of the Dordogne and Lot valleys.

Michael, Cirencester

What a fantastic venue for a holiday in the Dordogne! The property is even more impressive in reality than the pictures suggest. Whilst close enough (a quick cycle ride) to a small hamlet with two restaurants and a bakery (Ste-Sabine), the property is surrounded by countryside, so we enjoyed a level of peace that we don’t have at home: it felt as though we were staying on a private estate. The facilities are excellent both indoors and outside with the pool, garden, lake, and trees for shade. It was very special to pick ripe figs for breakfast every morning off a tree in the garden. Formidable!

David, Devizes

Gorgeous hosts, gorgeous home. A beautiful rural private setting. Rustic buildings tastefully decorated and with everything you need and more. Well equipped and clean. It was a real treat to stay here, thank you!

Sarah, Carlisle

Great house, great location We had a lovely time, the house was well equipped and clean, the garden was perfect for the children to play in and we all enjoyed the lake. Thanks for having us.

Kerry, Preston

A very lovely house in a haven of peace, with its little lake and lush surrounding greenery. The region is also magnificent, with its Bastides and swimming spots in the Dordogne river.

Bruno

Just had a wounderful holiday in Judah house in the village of sainte sabine. The surroundings were spectacular with a wonderful garden and swimming pool. I loved the interior of the house and All amenities worked well great fridge wi if and Aga The location of the house was such that we had a selection of beautiful villages to visit with there markets and evening festivities I highly recommend this property.

Anna, Oxford

We really enjoyed the peaceful setting of Judah in June. Whilst the weather was incredibly hot the house stayed cool and with the beautiful pond for natural swimming, shady spots to while away the time with a good book, as well as the plunge pool; we were able to escape from the heat. Plenty of stunning bastide towns hereby to visit. We felt so at home, we’re now house hunting in the area ourselves.

Sarah-Jane, Broadway

A heavenly holiday home-away-from-home, ideal for families. Bucket loads of room inside and out, a beautiful pool plus a lake for fishing and boating, all tucked in a valley deep in a corner of the southern Dordogne that has escaped the tourist throngs. Venture out to see the sight, or stay home and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist for week.

Location

The neighbourhood

The village, Sainte-Sabine-Born, a ten-minute walk, has a family-friendly restaurant as well has a tennis court and football pitch. Canoeing on the Dordogne is endless fun, drifting past vast châteaux, monuments and villages built on the river's edge, or on the cliffs above it. There are many cycle routes on the doorstep including some official ones along the river. Beaumont is ten minutes by car.
