The Experience
A comfortable, homely escape where you can do your own thing or mingle with other guests. Ann, Bob and ancient collie dog Dilma welcome you with a drink and nibbles. Your spotless room (one of three) opens onto a shared terrace that weaves down to the saltwater pool with loungers and a fragrant garden with lots of quiet spaces to sit and enjoy the peace. You’re in a tiny hamlet and the only sounds are birds and, thrice a day, church bells.
On warm days, eat Ann’s delicious breakfast including eggs from her happy hens, fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, local pastries, honey, cheese and ham on the shaded summer terrace gazing over the lavender-fringed lawn. You might spend your afternoon cycling into pretty Issigeac (5km) for lunch or a game of tennis, visiting vineyards or hiking the Dordogne – there are well-marked paths from the door.
Return for a cuppa in your sitting room with an honesty bar, where there’s also a glowing fire, TV, books, games and sofas.

Location
The neighbourhood
There are good restaurants in Issigeac (5km), Villeréal (12km), Eymet (20km) and Bergerac (20km). Villeréal is a gorgeous old Bastide town and a Plus Beaux Villages. They all host markets chockfull of independent goodies on various days and night markets in the summer months. The entire area is studded with châteaux and Château de Monbazillac is only a 20-minute drive.
Local points of interest from Ann Weijer De Maere
- Bardou is one of the smallest villages in the department of Dordogne, region Périgord Pourpre, with only 5 houses and a restored Romanesque church (St Blaise) with a chapel from the 13th century. About 500 meters away you will find the Chateau de Bardou.
- The region is known for its vineyards, bastides and gastronomy. For wine lovers, the famous wine regions of Bergerac (Pécharme, Monbazillac and Saussignac) are just a 25-minute drive away. In the immediate vicinity are smaller wine farms you can visit.
- Opt for our relaxing and decontracting massages (upon reservation!). You immerse yourselves in true relaxation thanks to our experience and the magical place in which you live the moment… In summer we favor an outdoor massage next to the swimming pool.
- La Ferme Buissonnière offers many hiking opportunities that start from its front door due to its special location. The short ‘Boucle Bardovienne’ (4 km) starts there, but also a bigger challenge such as (part of) the walk Bergerac-Rocamadour.
