The Experience
This 17th-century barn is set opposite Andrew and Sue’s house but doesn’t feel overlooked. It’s a house for all seasons, with a huge fireplace in the living room (wood provided) and a separate TV room with plenty of DVDs, books and games, and some local guidebooks too – plus full fibre WiFi for those who need to work.
On arrival find a welcome hamper including local produce, tea, coffee and wine to get you settled in. You’re encouraged to make full use of the garden, where there are lots of seating areas including a covered dining terrace next to the pool with a smart Weber barbecue.
Explore the Corrèze region, which is much quieter and less well known but none-the-less gorgeous. Head to the Étang de Coucou (a 10-minute drive) for a lake with a beach, inflatables for children, a bar and a restaurant where food is cooked on a plancha.

As two families, we stayed in Le Figuier for 10 days in July 2022. We had a fabulous time at Le Figuier - exploring the Dordogne region during our stay including canoeing, the caves at Tourtoirac, cave paintings at Lascaux and even watching some horse show jumping at Pompadour. Pros: * Accommodation wise, it was perfect for us - 2 families (2 couples with 2 children each) * Pool was amazing - great temperature, loads of shades and the salt water was lovely * Very well equipped to a high standard * The separate little living room was great for our kids (aged between 5 and 9) * Downstairs open

You will feel like you are stepping into your very own home in France when you book Le Figuier! Every touch at this lovely Dordogne historic house is so personal and thoughtful, from the welcome basket of French goodies and the bottle of wine awaiting our arrival, to the board games in the 'snug' and the willingness of our hosts to put out the ping pong table once they learned our teenage children loved to play. The charm of this restored home, the expansive pool, the view of the surrounding rolling hills, and the graciousness of our hosts have us already planning our return visit!

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in a very rural spot at the most northern point of the Dordogne with lovely walks all around, good vélo routes and quiet roads. There are shops and restaurants at Cherveix-Cubas, a 10-minute drive away. Hautefort is the same distance and has a wonderful château and gardens, a market, restaurants, a butchers and a bakery.
Local points of interest from Andrew & Sue Round
- At Le Figuier there are plenty of activities including the heated pool, table tennis, badminton, boules and croquet. There are several walks directly from the house and for the more adventurous there are more challenging river gorge walks.
- All the local specialities can be found at Brive and Perigeaux markets while the many night markets in the area give you the chance to sample them in a party atmosphere. One of these is at nearby Tourtoirac where you can also visit their famous caves.
- A visit to the Chateau at Hautefort (10 mins' drive) is a must. Either a visit during the day or in the evening in summer should be concluded with a meal at our favourite local restaurant in a small square under the walls of the Chateau.
- Despite being at the northern tip of the Dordogne the area's main attractions are all easily accessible including Sarlat, Montignac (Lascaux caves), Les Eyzies, Rocamadour and the many Chateaux and gardens along the river Dordogne.
- There are many places to canoe and kayak nearby plus many parks and attractions for adults and children alike. As well as the inflatables on the local lake at Hautefort our children particularly enjoyed the Velorail, cycling on a disused railway track.
- If you have an interest in wine Andrew will happily give you a tour of the small vineyard and explain the methods used to make the local country wine. This often concludes with a wine tasting in his cellar where local wine can also be purchased.

Introducing
Andrew & Sue Round
Andrew and Sue met when they were both studying music at university. Sue used to work at the Faculty of Music at Cambridge, Andrew qualified as an accountant and then had a long career in journalism. They always had their holidays in France so started to look for a house to buy. Le Figuier was the first house they went to view and they fell in love. They come here as often as they can.
An amazing property, finished and outfitted to a really high standard. Lots of videos, board games, and a table tennis table to keep the kids happy, on top of the fantastic pool. The location is amazing too, total isolation with fantastic views. The local town Hautefort is 15 minutes away with a beautiful Chateau, and a handy boulangerie and supermarket. We were a party of 10 (4 adults, 6 children), hence although property states it sleeps 8, extra beds are available. We will definitely be visiting again.
