The Experience

This rambling farmhouse in a hamlet that dates to 1715, has been restored with care and instinct by owner Wab. Two original stone buildings are joined by a light-filled salon with enormous windows that look out on to rolling hills. Ancient stone walls keep the summer heat at bay.

To one side, the kitchen – welcoming and airy with everything you need to feed a crowd. In the other building, five bedrooms (three doubles, two singles) ranged over two floors, including one with an ancient stone fireplace, and connected by a wooden spiral staircase. Upstairs, narrow corridors pass through stone doorways – it’s like staying in a rustic doll’s house.

Outside, there’s a saltwater pool and a “coin de repas” where you can fire up the barbecue and eat al fresco. There’s no television, no noise. Just birdsong and crickets. Sip an aperitif under the spreading fig tree and take it easy.

Reviews

Le Figuier is a great choice for a group of up to eight people. The location is rural and quiet, far from the noise of everyday life. The building and decor blends French rustic farmhouse charm with modern-day living. The house is filled with light and interesting details. Soak up the sun in the beautiful private pool, visit the famous nearby attractions, or sit under the old fig tree with a book.

Introducing

Wab

Having fallen in love with this place the first time she saw it, owner Wab jumped at the chance to buy it when it came up for sale a few years later. She has lovingly restored these buildings, along with her own home and a gîte on the property, with a deeply personal touch. She lives next door with her family and is on hand if you need her.
