The Experience

Perched on a hill at the foot of castle ramparts sits a beautifully converted house with stunning valley and woodland views. It’s warm and friendly with two sitting rooms, one with slouchy sofa and big coffee table, the other with sofabed. Wend your way up oak staircases to two cosy bedrooms with iron paysan-style beds, higgledy-piggledy beams, oak floors and sensational film-set views. Just go steady in the dead of night as you back down the stairs – to a state-of-the-art bathroom with a swish walk-in shower and tub. The rustic-contemporary kitchen is a delight, with its exposed stone walls, flagstone floors, and corner dining table. Leave your car in the square opposite and spend the days pottering up and down the steep cobblestone streets and the Perigord Noir houses of the village, bright with flowers in summer. Don’t miss the château gardens, Wednesday’s market, river swimming 4km away. Enjoy a quiet drink on the small terrace, then amble off to a restaurant or bar. This may not be perfect for the very young, but for a family or two couples happy to share a bathroom, it’s bliss.

Reviews

Feargal, London

We had a lovely holiday at Rediat Cor with our dog. The house is a very well equipped holiday home, located close to some excellent restaurants. It’s a great base for exploring the Dordogne.

Virginia, Anglesea, Victoria

We had a delightful stay at Rediat Cor. It’s location is ideal and it is a beautifully decorated and equipped . Three wonderful restaurants within 20 mtrs from your doorstep. Highly recommended

Emma, London

We had a wonderful holiday at Rediat Cor with our 9 month old daughter. The house is by far the best equipped holiday home we’ve ever stayed in: not only is it like cooking in a Masterchef kitchen, but there’s everything you’d need for children too (nice travel cot, pram, baby monitor, potty, stair gates, toys etc). The house is just beautiful and the views stunning. It was our second visit, and I’m sure we’ll be back for a third one day!

David, Canterbury

Wonderful cottage, village, Baker, butcher, restaurants, people, market and walks. We have been coming to france for holidays many years not every year but I would guess at at least 40 years they have all been great but we think this was the best.

Martin, Luton

Rediat Cor is a stunning, well equipped property. The interior design creates a wonderful ambient atmosphere. The views from the house are magnificent, with several excellent restaurants literally steps away from the front door. We found plenty to do both close by, as well as further afield. Rediat Cor truly is a special place to stay and we have no doubt we will return. Amy, the owner, is extremely helpful and provides plenty of useful information to enhance your stay in Hautefort and surrounding areas. Catherine and Martin Harvey

Local points of interest from Amy Anson

  • A french retreat nestled in the heart of Hautefort, the house sits directly beneath the beautiful and imposing ‘Chateau de Hautefort’ and overlooks a tranquil village square. Rediat Cor and the village feature in the film ‘Plenty’ starring Meryl Streep!
  • A delightful boulangerie for your morning breads and pastries, a boucherie /charcuterie offering plenty of local meats and cheeses and several cafes and restaurants are just a 5-minute stroll away in the village.
  • The local Auvézère river and many lakes within easy reach, offer adventure and endless opportunities for canoeing, swimming, fishing and windsurfing. Or perhaps take a picnic and simply relax in the sun on a river bank.
  • Numerous hiking trails, easy dog walks and bike routes start from the village and wind through the surrounding lush countryside. Bikes can easily be hired nearby and delivered to your door at Rediat Cor.
  • In the summer evenings you will see hot air balloons flying over the village. Lift off is usually at the foot of the chateau and is an exhilarating way to take in the local scenery!
  • The Lascaux caves, Brantome ‘the Venice of the Périgord’, the vibrant medieval town of Sarlat and the Dordogne with its stunning chateaux are all close by and offer memorable day trips across this beautiful and extensive region.
