The Experience

Caro and Seán are passionate about organic and biodynamic wine and they will immerse you in the intricate and fascinating world of growing, creating and understanding their crop.

There are vast views over the vineyards, rolling hills and woodland from your cottage. Inside, you’ll find bright, open, eco-consciously converted spaces: a simple open-plan kitchen and living room, bare stone walls in the bedroom (with organic cotton sheets) and a contemporary en suite shower.

It’s a short walk to Saussignac for a café and restaurant; or spend your days cycling along the Grande Randonnée, strolling in the woods and vineyards, swimming in the saltwater pool and tasting the estate’s wine. There’s a barbeque and deckchairs on your wrap-around terrace – perfect for those warm, hazy evenings.

Reviews

I found Chateau Feely through Caro's books, and had a lot of expectations on arrival - everything exceeded them! The views across the vineyards and valley are beautiful. The accommodation had everything we needed and was comfortable. The pool was great for dipping in. But best of all was the care and attention of the hosts to make sure we had a great authentic stay in the area. Recommendations for local restaurants, markets and bike rides were much appreciated. We ate and drank very well the whole week :-) Can't wait to go back!

We stayed in the Wine Cottage at Chateau Feely for a week in May. The cottage is lovely with stunning views across the vineyards and valley. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable with lovely decor and remarkably cool even though it was very hot outside. Although part of a working vineyard it felt secluded. Caro Feely made us very welcome and we felt at home there. It was interesting to learn about producing organic wine and to sample the lovely range of wines. A dip in the swimming pool at the end of a hot day was a refreshing experience. I would highly recommend and hope to visit again.

What a wonderful place to stay! A comfortable, well-equipped cottage with stunning views over the vines to the valley below. Caro, our host, was incredibly welcoming and friendly - with an infectious passion for winemaking (and her wines are SUPERB!)! I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights in late September 2021 and would thoroughly recommend (and we hope to return!). The perfect place for a magical escape!

We – my wife and I – spent a magical week in the Wine Cottage at Chateau Feely last July. The lodging is beautiful with everything you need and Madame Feely is a perfect host, always available and full of good suggestions about visiting the Bergerac. Very interesting the visit of the winery, particularly if you want to know about organic wine making (which is a totally different thing from the wine making I knew). A quiet and restful location we loved, good wines and the outstanding bergerienne food in the neighbourhood, we hope we can visit again soon.

Matteo, Trento

A perfect place to immerse yourself in the world of biodynamic wines.

Helen, Sawday's Inspector

Having tasted and enjoyed Feely wines here at home, a visit to their website prompted us to book a week in the wine cottage. We were not disappointed. The beautifully appointed cottage is very well equipped and has far reaching views over the vines. There are good restaurants very close by and the Dordogne region is ideal for visiting Bergerac, Monbazillac, Saint-Émilion and the amazing Jardins de Marqueyssac. Sean and Caro are perfect hosts. Caro leads knowledgeable and informative wine tours and Soirées. Feely wines are second to none. A perfect holiday!

Another wonderful stay at the Wine Cottage, great accommodation and amazing views over the vineyard. Welcoming hosts, great breakfasts and delicious wines. Hope to return soon.

Ian, Salcombe

Stayed in the Wine Cottage and its just the loveliest place to stay, the cottage itself is fitted out to a very high standard, very comfortable and peaceful with amazing views.

Brian, Exeter

We spent a week in the newly renovated Cottage, where we stayed first in 2010. It is extremely comfortable now, and well equipped. The views from the cottage are wonderful with vineyards all around. It was harvest time so lots of activity, with the chance to take part! Excellent wine tastings too. We love it here - out 6th visit. Thanks to Caro and Sean, Sophia and Ellie for having created such a marvellous place to spend a holiday, and for their warmth and friendship.

The Wine Cottage was exquisite. Clean, beautiful views, quiet, and private. It was recently remodeled and everything is new. Caro and the family are the ideal hosts, and I couldn't have enjoyed my visit more. I loved having a kitchen and washing machine too. I highly recommend the Wine Cottage.

We stayed in the wine cottage for a week with our 1 year old and it became a home from home except far more beautiful. The cottage is stunning with lots of room & 2 balconys for breakfast or sipping a glass of their delicious wine at sunset. The pool is refreshing after days out sightseeing & visiting the beautiful market towns close by. We made great friends with the cats, chickens & especially the lovely Dora. We had a fantastic wine tasting session with the very knowledgeable Ceciele. We learnt so much & went home with a new organic philosophy. We had an amazing trip & can't wait to return!

Steven, Dublin

What a wonderful place to stay. The views and being very much a part of a working vineyard made our holiday. The wine cottage has everything that is needed and has that lovely rustic french feel that is so often missing in other gites. We loved our stay and are already starting to plan a return visit.

Cathy

We spent a week in the wine cottage for our honeymoon. It was a lovely relaxing holiday, spent largely outdoors - the countryside is idyllic, even the half-hour cycle to and from Gardonne for groceries is gorgeous! The cottage is pretty and spacious - rustic and has everything you'll need. We had a bottle of sparkling wine on the house - very tasty! - and enjoyed the food at the restaurant in Saussignac. It's a lovely, remote, romantic getaway (especially remote without a car, but we liked that!). Thank you!

I so enjoyed my stay at Chateau Haut Garrigue. The views of the vineyard from the cottage were amazing. The cottage was spotless & very comfortable . Caroline Feely was most welcoming & very friendly The wines at Chateau Haut Garrigue are truly wonderful. A gift of a bottle of their rose wine was in the fridge as a gift - this was a lovely gesture. The small , pretty village of Saussignac is a 10 minute walk from the cottage. Saussignac has restaurant , a depot du pain, an epicerie & a post office . Ihope to return soon to the Wine Cottage .

Location

The neighbourhood

Views are of vineyards and countryside. It’s rural here, yet you’re still within walking distance of Saussignac for a few places to eat and 1.5km in the opposite direction is a summer restaurant, The Bus Brothers. Cycle up to Gardonne (4km) for shops and a pizzeria (although it’s uphill on the way back) or head to Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (11 km) for the fabulous farmers' market on Saturday mornings.

Local points of interest from Caro & Seán Feely

  • Read Caro's books - 5 published including the latest Cultivating Change in the hamac under the cool shade of the trees in the park (both houses have also have a small library of great holiday reads)
  • Walk to saussignac for lunch enjoying the views, smells and life of our charming local village
  • Breakfast on the balcony or terrace taking in the stunning views of the organic vineyards and dreaming about what you are going to do today. Bird watching and deer-spotting are excellent particularly at dawn and dusk
  • Drink the wine from the vineyard you're looking at: taste, see, smell and feel the terroir of this magical organic and biodynamic farm
  • Walk to Melange restaurant in Saussignac for a delicious dinner then have a romantic moonlit walk home
  • Stargaze with the naked eye or take your passion further with the telescope available in the tasting room. Being rural means little light pollution and a fabulous starry dome in the heavens

Introducing

Caro & Seán Feely

Enthusiastic and smiley Caro and Seán (originally from South Africa, and with Irish roots) live here with their dog called Dora and two cats. They bought the vineyard in 2005 to follow their dream of creating great wines on fine terroir, and Caro, who does the meet and greet, has written five books on their experiences. She's happy to ferry guests to and from the station in Gardonne (4km) on arrival/departure.
