The Experience
This traditional Landes house dates from 1829 and belongs to Christophe’s family – look out for the old family photographs that give a fascinating glimpse into their history.
Sylvie serves a huge continental breakfast, either on the terrace or in the dining room: fresh smoothies, a variety of breads, jams, local organic cereals and yogurts, fresh fruit and a local speciality brioche called the Pastis Landais. Lunch and dinners can be arranged if you ask ahead, and are equally good. Settle next to the fire in the sitting room with a book, or swim in the pool.
Although there are neighbours it’s very quiet – roe deer sometimes venture onto the lawn in the evening to nibble at the grass. Stay here as a stopover if you’re driving between northern France and Spain, or linger for a few days – there are lovely beaches a 20-minute drive away, as is Dax, a historic spa town with a lively market on Saturdays – Christophe is always happy to advise on things to see or do.

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is in the town of Castets and faces new houses on one side and the forest behind. Walk through the forest, explore Castets on foot, or drive 15 mins to Le Courant d'Huchet and take a boat trip that winds its way through a nature reserve. There are hidden beaches on the coast (20-min drive) close to the pretty towns of Moliets-et-Maâ, Léon and Messanges, and for golfers, there are several courses within a 30-min drive.
Local points of interest from Sylvie & Christophe de Rivoyre
- 4 golf courses less than 30 minutes from the house - at Moliets, Seignosse, Hossegor, Pinsolle.
- Take a boat ride down the Huchet river and reach the nature reserve at the start of the Lac de Leon.
- Visit the beautiful beaches of the Landes, less than 20 minutes from Castets - go to relax, swim and surf.
- See the Eco-museum at Marquèze à Sabres (35 minutes from Castets). One of the biggest open air muesums in France. Take the old train to reach the site.
- Loads of cycle paths and horse riding tracks to explore.
- Gastronomy: there are many starred restaurants nearby - Hotel de la Poste, le Hittau, Villa de l'Etang blanc, Les clefs d'argent, les Prés d'Eugénie.

Introducing
Sylvie & Christophe de Rivoyre
Charming and friendly Christophe and Sylvie live on-site. Sylvie is from the Pyrenees and worked for famous French luxury brands in Paris. Christophe also worked in Paris and is passionate about Les Landes - he is always delighted to chat to his guests about what makes the area so special.
We stayed 3 nights here. A beautiful country house, the interior expertly designed by Sylvie, down to the last detail. Bedrooms delightful, and in the large garden a pool, and covered bar area with a beer stocked fridge - help yourself/pay later. Les Landes is a wonderful area, with many good places to eat within 30 minutes as lunch and dinner not available. Or even in Castets itself. Fantastic breakfasts!
