The Experience
Bastide towns – Monflanquin, Monpazier, Villereal – awash with medieval buildings and foodie markets overflowing with pâté, truffles, walnuts, cheeses and fine wines are all within easy reach. Drive into Monflanquin for supper when it’s all illuminated and twinkly; there are plenty of places to eat or try Le Caillau restaurant set in a Cahors vineyard.
Your handsome stone house is well-equipped and comfortable with a wood-burner in the open-plan living room and a neat kitchen. Sit out on the covered veranda, the views are glorious.
Laze by the pool, walk through meadows and woodland, soak up the peace from under the ancient oak tree. Lindsay and Tim are next door and with a bit of notice can book up yoga, meditation and massage, art classes or a restaurant table – they’ll even drive you there and back. And you’ll arrive to a generous hamper with stuff for breakfast.

A welcome return to the immaculate, perfectly presented, luxurious & so peaceful HITF… & it was even better than our magical memories from last time. Tim & Lindsay make it look easy setting up & running such a wonderful holiday home… but it’s not. They’re the ultimate hosts & their characterful, stylish, gorgeous home is a delight… chilling by the best pool you could hope for, soaking up the French Cotswold views, long lunches on the veranda, cooking up a storm in the amazingly well equipped kitchen… it’s all here. And magic Mike the Massuse of the gods! Booked again next year. Nuff said?

We had a fantastic two week holiday at House in the Field. We have rented gites throughout France during the last 20 years and this is certainly the best! In the tastefully restored house we found everything we needed, the porch is beautiful and the large terrace and swimming pool leave nothing to be desired. The views are stunning! Tim and Lindsay are the most thoughtful and considering hosts we could have wished for. We will be happy to one day return at House in the Field.

Had a wonderful stay at The House in the Field - Beautiful peaceful location in the Lot, close to historic Bastides and pretty villages. The House is very well equipped and the heated pool was a real plus - we got in every day, despite the weather being cooler than it should have been. Tim and Lindsay are the perfect hosts and can’t do enough for you- all in all we heartily recommend it!

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is a 15-minute drive from Monflanquin, a pretty 13th century bastide town with masses of well-preserved medieval buildings. Visit the weekly market (Thursdays) in the main square; stock up on pastries and baguettes at the boulangerie; book onto an art class. Time your stay during a medieval weekend – hosted regularly in the summer – when the place comes alive. Another bastide jewel, Monpazier, is a 20-minute drive. Chateau Gavaudun has a fascinating dungeon to explore while Bonaguil and Biron castles are both close by and quieter than the Dordogne castles.
Local points of interest from Lindsay Patterson
- We sit on the border of the popular & busy tourist areas of the Dordogne and Lot et Garonne. Our local town, Monflanquin, is a bastide village of stunning medieval architecture with great restaurants, quaint shops and an amazing ice cream parlour!
- The summer 'night markets' in July /August are not to be missed! On different evenings in local villages, friends and strangers congregate for great French bonhomie to enjoy an array of delicious local produce washed down with good wine and live music!
- There are so many activities on offer in the area, you will be spoilt for choice! Take a scenic walk, visit nearby bastide towns, Chateaux, vineyards or go on a Treetop adventure, go climbing, bowling, abseiling, horseriding, golfing, mini golfing and more
- If Rivers are your thing, go wild swimming, have a river bank picnic, take a scenic boat trip or spend a day canoeing through rocky gorges past stunning villages or take a hot air balloon ride to enjoy the stunning landscape and architecture at its best!
- 'House in the field' offers days of peace and tranquility or fun and laughter...it's up to you, it's your holiday! You can relax around the pool, have a massage, play water polo or croquet, have a BBQ, stargaze and toast marshmallows!
- If you want to be creative during your stay, you can take part in a holiday workshop (painting, cooking, writing, textiles, yoga). These workshops are available in the local area or on site and can be arranged for you subject to dates and availability.

Introducing
Lindsay Patterson
Lindsay and Tim took early retirement and have taken on this place as a project. The house is now ready for guests and they have turned their attention to the barn, where they live with their three rescue dogs. They are very welcoming and will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
We have been visiting the Lot and Dordogne for nearly ten years and this house is one of the best. The location is beautiful and has a peaceful and relaxing feel. Watching the buzzards flying overhead was about as busy as it got. The house was delightful and had everything we needed - the welcome basket was a lovely touch. Tim and Lindsay were incredibly helpful and kind. Particular highlights were sitting on the veranda overlooking the pool for breakfast, lunch or an evening meal - or just any time really - and driving up to the house with the dogs greeting us felt like coming home.
