The Experience

The two are set in three acres of grounds with mature trees, a pond, orchard and woods. The farmhouse has its own decking, seating and large lawn at the front, and the cottage a table and chairs on the front driveway plus a private back garden – there’s no formal division between them but neither are overlooked. Shared use of the tennis court, a ping pong table on wheels and deck chairs for sunbathing mean there’s plenty to do on sunny days.

Interiors are warmed by an open fire or wood-burner, sofas are comfy and there are board games and books – this is no sterile holiday cottage, the owners use it too so it feels homely with original artwork and two well-equipped kitchens. Basics will be in the cupboard plus treats waiting for you. Bedrooms all have gorgeous green views.

The feel is deeply rural (watch deer wandering into the garden, swooping owls at night) but you’re only a ten-minute drive to Ploumilleau for a great crêperie and 20 minutes to Locquirec for more good restaurants and a summer pop up bar on the estuary.

Reviews

The perfect home for a group or a couple of families. Inside is spacious and comfortable (get cosy by the fire on cold days!) and the huge gardens allows for plenty of roaming around. Bring your tennis rackets to make full use of the court, or relax in the deckchairs at sunset - you might spot a deer! Go hiking or cycling (directly from the house) or explore the stunning coast (only 15 minutes away).

Susan, CRAVEN ARMS

Langren is indeed a very special place to stay. The property is in a beautiful location with extensive grounds and an excellent tennis court . The house itself is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Jo and Ben could not have been more welcoming and helpful before and during our stay. They provided lots of useful information about the best beaches , restaurants , cafes, & places to visit. The markets and shops are excellent with an emphasis on organic ( bio) and local fresh food - superb fruit and vegetables, together with wonderful varied seafood. We would thoroughly recommend a stay!

Samantha, Bristol

We had such a lovely time at Langren. The gite is gorgeous and perfectly private from the main farmhouse. There was another group there and we were barely aware of them! We loved going into the local bakery and butchers in the morning and stocking up at the nearby markets. Jo’s beach recommendations were all excellent too - we have small children so we appreciated not having to do a lot of research ourselves, and sandcastles and swimming in beautiful coves kept us all entertained for hours. We wouldn’t hesitate to return - thank you Jo!

Kate, Paris

We loved our stay in Langren, such a beautiful spot. We were pretty blessed with the weather too, and got to enjoy lots of the magic beaches in the area. Jo was incredibly helpful. The house has been beautifully done, and has everything that you need. And oh so lovely to have beautiful bedding and linen! We will be back!

Sarah, London

This is a lovely house in the countryside. We enjoyed the peace, nature all around us and the gite is well equipped and comfortable. A great week away.

Location

The neighbourhood

The GR 34 can be joined at the end of the back drive for a 20-minute walk through the woods to an old chapel, or a 12-mile hike to Locquirec (stop off at the excellent Brasserie de la Plage when you’re there). There are on and off-road cycling trails from the houses. Plouaret has a good butcher, two bakeries and a few simple restaurants. Nearby beaches include Saint-Efflam (15-min drive) where you can rent paddle boards and canoes.

Local points of interest from Jo Powell

  • Foodie heaven. Sample fabulous produce from seafood to cheese and crêpes at local markets; our favourite is Saturday morning at Morlaix. Or, head to Locquirec, Lannion or Locquemeau for the full range of eateries from Michelin star to waterfront pop ups.
  • Terre (Land) - Cycle or walk, on or off road from the back door. The GR34 passes the end of the drive. Cycle to the village to buy the bread, have a coffee in the square then cycle home via a new route and discover hidden chapels and manoirs on the way.
  • Mer (Sea) - The beaches are plentiful and uncrowded. The stunning Pink Granite Coast is a must. Activities include : sailing, canoeing, surfing, kite surfing, paddle boarding, sand karting, snorkelling or just good old rock pooling and sand castles!
  • Brittany is filled with beautiful chateaux and gardens to explore. Chateau de Rosanbo is on the doorstep, but Château de la Roche-Jagu, Jardin du Kestellic, Jardin Exotique in Roscoff and the magical gardens at Kerdalo are all worth a visit.
  • Islands - The Ile de Brehat and Ile de Batz are both short ferry rides to perfect one day destinations, beautiful sandy beaches and subtropical gardens on largely pedestrianised islands. Closer to home visit Ile Callot at Carantec at low tide on foot.
  • Other distractions - If after tennis, ping pong, pool, beaches and bikes you still have energy to burn and a desire to explore, try Oceanopolis Aquarium and sea life centre in Brest, or the Gaulois Village, High Ropes and Planetarium at Pleumeur Bodou.
