The Experience

Perched just above the port, this lovely Breton stone house has views that’ll stop you in your tracks — the river Rance, a flotilla of sailing boats, and even a little château across the water. Inside, it’s calm and beautifully put together: designer sofas, a wood-burning stove for stormy evenings, and a kitchen that’s made for lazy breakfasts and lively dinners. In the pay-per-use fridge, you’ll find a bottle of local cider, Taittinger champagne and artisanal kombucha.

On the first floor, two dreamy bedrooms with deep mattresses, soft cotton sheets and views of the harbour. The ensuite bathrooms are spotless, with state-of the-art showers and soak-worthy tubs. Up top, a kids’ room with bunk beds (strictly for over 6s) and a quiet double tucked into the eaves.

Outside, a sun-trap terrace for barbecues and deckchair lounging, just a stone’s throw from a sandy beach and the friendliest little restaurant across the lane.

Location

The neighbourhood

Pleudihen-sur-Rance (2km) has a bakery, Italian deli, organic cheese maker and greengrocer, a grocery store, and a pharmacy. Eat at Le Cale de Mordeuc opposite the house. Walk along the riverside, rent paddle boards, learn to sail in Suilac (11km), try kite surfing in Lancieux (25km). There’s horse riding, skating, cycling and pétanque nearby. The house owner can skipper boat trips as well.

Introducing

Dorothée & Guillaume De Champeaux

Guillaume and his wife Dorothée have poured heart and soul into restoring this old gabarier’s house, redesigning it from the ground up and creating three unique spaces, which can be rented separately or as one house. She led on the interiors, while he oversaw the build. They’re nearby if you need them and are happy to arrange boat trips, yoga classes and more.
