The Experience

Close to the walled town of Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan, Jantine and Jacques’ house and 35 acres lie in undulating country where horses, goats and Highland cattle graze and clematis clambers. Light-filled bedrooms, the most comfortable on the first floor, are crisp and comfy.

An organic à la carte breakfast will set you up for the day: homemade jams, yogurts, eggs from the chickens, brioche vendéenne and Sunday cakes – ham, cheese and croissants too if requested. Have a nap in the enclosed gardens, sip an espresso in the tiny salon, enjoy the heated indoor pool.

There are shops and restaurants nearby – your hosts can recommend some serving local produce. Vannes is 10 minutes away and you’re perfectly placed to explore the Gulf of Morbihan’s many islands and coastal paths too. Head to the west side for Locmariaquer’s sandy beaches, Quiberon’s stunning coastline and pretty port Auray for culture and history. Across the gulf discover the impressive thirteenth-century Château de Suscinio – all about a 30-minute drive.

Reviews

We had a lovely welcome from Jantine and Jaques (& Hollie the collie!). Our room was clean and comfortable and the location was ideal for exploring a beautiful part of Brittany. Our hosts were really helpful, giving us some great ideas for the couple of rainy days we had. Overall we loved our stay

Windsor, London

Jantien, Dutch by birth, and Jacques, his family deeply Bretons, gave us a warm welcome and a comfortable five nights amid rolling country just north of the attractive small city of Vannes. Refusing any deposit when booking ('We have been doing it that way for 10 years with our British guests with mutual trust and satisfaction.') she speaks the perfect English of the Dutch; and breakfast includes eggs from their own hens and a variety of delicious home made jams. She and Jacques seldom leave: how could they with a herd of Highland cattle (bull included so the family grows) and horses too?

David, Beaminster

A warm welcome. Clean, comfortable, characterful rooms. Kind, accommodating, attentive hosts. Delicious French breakfasts. Easy drive to Vannes, which has plenty of good restaurants.

James, London

Excellent hospitality. Warm welcome. Excellent breakfast. Very comfortable. Well placed to explore Vannes and the Golfe du Morbihan. Thank you!

Michael & Janie, Kingsbridge

Excellent. Great hosts. Good food. Plenty of parking. Had a wonderful stay and will definitely go again as we didn't see the car museum!

Lesley, Kingsbridge Devon

An excellent stay. Very welcoming hosts. Great location for exploring the Morbihan. Superior breakfast - coffee exceptionally good.

Marie-Christine, London

After a busy day of visits, when it's time for a glass of wine in the garden Jacques and Jantine will share a few tips with you.... and will be happy to hear about your own excitements. Thanks to them I discovered the gorgeous medieval village of Rochefort-en-Terre, 22 miles away.

Michèle, Sawday's inspector

Jantine, Jacques, Holly the dog and zorro the cat were all very welcoming . Our room was very bright and sunny and the breakfast the next morning was delicious. In a great position to visit Vannes which is just a short drive away.

Julie, Laniscat

A wonderful week with the warmest of hosts. Our family (grandma, grandad, uncle, mum, dad and two under 5s) couldn't have wished for more. Cöet Bihan is a genuinely beautiful setting and the standard of accommodation and service provided by Jacques and Jantine is second to none. It's not easy to please all ages, but they did so with ease And to top notch quality. Our 4 year old adored exploring the beautiful (& safe) garden - he was in his element all week. The local knowledge made our holiday even more special: Ile Aux Moines, Chateau Suscinio, Port Navalo & Rochefort-en-Terre. Un grand merci

Ben, London

The very welcome cup of tea and cake served to us in the beautiful garden as soon as we arrived was typical of Jantine's warm hospitality. Another delightful find, with a helpful hostesses who made a restaurant booking for us and gave us helpful advise on where to visit

Celia

Jantine and Jacques are marvellous hosts who will answer any questions regarding where to visit to give you the best experience of the locality. They couldn't be more helpful. The room was comfortable and it was wonderful to have access to the terrace with lovely views of the garden . Take time to enjoy the breakfast of delicious home-made creamy yoghurt with a wide variety of excellent jams also made by Jantine. You will leave feeling you have been staying with friends.

Verity

We were made so welcome after a long cycle ride here. A few refreshing beers with Jacques and then a great shower before a delicious supper in the garden. His omelette is apparently legendary and it was delicious. An early night and up again to cycle some more but not without a scrumy breakfast of fresh bread and home made jams. A delightful couple who made our stay so lovely.

Sheira

Wonderful place, beautifully restored. Jantine and Jacques are excellent hosts: we should have stayed two nights just to follow up on some of our conversations (in perfect English) about French life and French business!

Location

The neighbourhood

You’ll feel remote on the terrace, looking over rolling, tree-lined fields, but you’re just a five-minute drive from Saint-Avé for shops, bars and restaurants. Five minutes further will take you to the cultural haven of Vannes, with harbour, museums, twice-weekly markets and plenty of fine restaurants. Spend a day at Carnac, 40 minutes’ drive, lounging on its sandy beaches or investigating its megalithic standing stones. Jantine and Jacques are experts on the region and will help you plan a perfect stay.

Local points of interest from Jantine Guégan-Helder

  • The name of our domaine is due to the presence of a wood of chestnuts and oaks. Coët Bihan means Little Wood in breton. It is an old farm built during the 18 and 19 th centuries
  • The estate is a little green valley, only a few minutes away from an old walled medieval city and the harbour on the gorgeous Golfe du Morbihan, regarded as one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
  • The Golfe du Morbihan, Little Sea in breton, is a unique place with numerous islands to discover by cruising - one of the musts of a stay in the region - or by foot thanks to the paths all around the Golfe.
  • Our B&B is ideally located to reach Vannes, the Golfe, the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean or the preserved country side with its little medieval cities, its manors, chapels and forests. The sites are so numerous that you will certainly come back.
  • Fans of the sea, nature, nice sites and good food will enjoy staying at our place. We are able to give great advice on the area to optimize your stay in South Brittany and give our best so you appreciate your time at our home.
  • After busy days you can relax and enjoy our terraces, swimming pool, gardens and walking around our fields and wood - 10 acres - before going to Vannes for a good meal in numerous restaurants and enjoy the atmosphere of the street.

Introducing

Jantine Guégan-Helder

After 30 years of city life in Paris, spirited Jantine and Jacques – she Dutch, he Breton – fell in love with Domaine de Coët Bihan in 2010 and set to converting the farmhouse into a charming retreat for guests. Jacques has travelled the world as an international manager and quadrilingual Jantine is a natural-born host with a talent for hospitality, so you won’t be short of good conversation. As well as tending their horses, goats and cows, they enjoy sailing and have a dog and two cats which you might see in the garden.
