The Experience
Lots of history to soak up in this 500-year-old mas, set in eight acres of lovely gardens and with views of the village ramparts above. Beautiful apartments sit around the roofed courtyard with a pool to share too. Friendly Kate and Graham live next door (with dogs and chickens) – their thoughtful restorations and extras are spot on – find an iPad loaded with information and a welcome app, bikes, open-air cinema nights in the courtyard, fresh bread delivered daily and a weekly welcome supper of local produce with wine, served on the wisteria hung terrace. Across the courtyard, steps lead up to Le Grenier, a former grain store for four, and Le Murier, the tower for two, which connect across a dining terrace. They’re also bookable together to create a self-contained space for six. La Bergerie, the barn for two has vaulted ceilings and its own private, secured courtyard – perfect for dog owners. Dine at one of the several restaurants in Lussan, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France. So much to do – visit foodie Uzès, hike in the Cévennes, go wine tasting and visit Roman ruins such as the extraordinary Pont du Gard.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Kate Langley
- We are close to the wonderful cities of Avignon, Nimes and Uzes, and the magnificent Cevennes and Ardeche mountains. Explore!
- 5 restaurants in walking distance - Pizza van weekly. Charcuterie/cheese board to order for night of arrival. And of course our own gas and wood fired barbecues.
- Walk or cycle in to the Garrigue straight from the Mas. Hundreds of miles of way-marked 'sentiers'. Maps and guides are provided. The Bergerie is ideal for dog owners with a gated courtyard - well behaved pets are welcome!
- 8 acres of landscaped gardens at the foot of one of the 'Plus Beaux Villages'. There's always a quiet spot for that chilled evening sundowner. By the willow pond, in the boules garden, under the olives in the pool garden or on your own private terrace.
- Foodie paradise, from Uzès' famed twice weekly market, to truffle fairs, olive oil mills, goat cheese farms and the vineyards of the Cote du Rhone. Try them all on a gourmet tour. Or arrange a wine tasting at the Mas - available for groups of 6 or more.
- Welcome supper ' à la Provençal' each week; the perfect chance to meet other guests and share tips. A fun and informal three course supper sourcing local ingredients and wines. Charcuterie/cheese board available to order.

Mas de Basquette is a haven. We have stayed 2 years in a row. The 3 gites are all really comfortable and sit around a lovely old courtyard. The 3 share a pool, also lovely, with plenty of sun lounging space and a huge garden to use too. Kate and Graham, the owners, live on site and act as hosts and introduce everyone staying if you are not there alone. They even hosted a welcome dinner and drinks. Very special. They provide fantastic local knowledge, for example of river swimming spots away from tourist crowds and there is so much to see, do and explore in the immediate area. Will be back!
