Lots of history to soak up in this 500-year-old mas, long ago a sheep and then a silkworm farm. Beautiful apartments sit around the higgledy-piggledy roofed courtyard, sharing a pool for guests and several garden areas next to the owners’ house (where dogs and chickens roam). Kate and Graham’s thoughtful restorations and extras for guests are spot on – find an iPad loaded with information and a welcome app, bikes to borrow, fresh bread delivered daily and a weekly welcome supper. Across the courtyard, steps lead up to Le Grenier, a former grain store for four, and Le Murier, the tower for two, which connect across a dining terrace with comfy seating. They’re also bookable together to create a self-contained space for six. La Bergerie, the barn for two has vaulted ceilings and cool spaces, as well as its own private, secured courtyard – perfect for dog owners. Head out for dinner at one of the several restaurants to choose from in the village, a short walk away – it’s also one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France. So much to do – visit Uzès, hike in the Cévennes, taste wines and visit Roman ruins including the extraordinary Pont du Gard.
