The Experience

You will be private, quiet and supremely comfortable on the edge of this remote community-minded village. Built on ancient vaults of the famous Pompignan stone, the house is twisty and full of character, the shower rooms are the latest in design and fittings, you will revel in two gardens, three staircases, two sitting rooms and two kitchens – one inside, the other under the open canopy by the pool; it’s particularly ideal for groups of friends. The Mortiers have done a beautiful conversion of soft ochre-limed walls, linen fabrics, lamps and tables from Morocco (they lived there for 30 years) and some glorious bits of brocante alongside sturdy wooden furniture. The bedrooms are independent of each other so there’s no noise. Walk to the friendly café and bakery then out into the remarkably wild and untouched Cévennes, or visit the magnificent bamboo forest at Anduze, medieval St Guilhem le Désert, lively Montpellier… You will be greeted with a glass of champagne and a generous basket of goodies by thoroughly welcoming owners.

Linda

We had a wonderful time with our extended family at Ostal Philia. The house is large, beautifully decorated with plenty of room for families to enjoy being together as well as having their own space if needed. There are two really well equipped spotlessly clean kitchens and dining areas (one by the pool) as well as four spacious bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms/showers. The owners, Patrick and Yvonne are delightful and have amazing knowledge of this area of France giving really helpful advice about places to visit. You will be made to feel very welcome in their lovely house.

Fantastic! We were met on our arrival by Patrick and his very lovely wife Yvonne. A more warmer welcome could not have been had. In the fridge was fresh milk . Delicious fresh bread, brioche tea, coffee and jam was also waiting for us so no worries about breakfast . The house was absolutely spotless clean and very tidy . A beautiful home that was very comfortable and required nothing. Plenty of space for every one , ideally located for all kinds of excursions , 35 mins drive to gorgeous beaches that had very few people on them. We can't wait to go back and stay at Patrick and Yvonne's home. Th

The perfect place to spend a quite and peaceful break. The owners Patrick and Yvonne met us on arrival and showed us the workings of the villa also providing us with provisions to tied us over. The villa is old with a comfortable modern interior set in a typical French rural setting. The nearby villages are worth visiting as is the nearby beautiful beeches. We had a wonderful time which had been enhanced by the villa, the surroundings and of course the warm weather! We hope to return soon, thank you Patrick and Yvonne.

Lovely characterful gite in a village of unchanged France. Delightful owners who cannot do enough to make your stay memorable. lots to see and do in the area.

  • Anduze: the famous Prafrance bamboo garden (« Bambouseraie ») is a wonderful exotic garden that invites you to saunter through its grounds. The restful paths through tall bamboo trees, a splendid Japanese-style Zen garden, the Bambusarium, ...
  • The Navacelles cirque, a listed Grand National Site, is an impressive natural amphitheater with its tall limestone cliffs. At its centre, the picturesque village of Navacelles is particularly photogenic with its waterfall and spectacular environment.
  • Pont du Gard: a masterpiece of Antiquity and nowadays a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site, this impressive Roman aqueduct bridge over the waters of the river Gardon has three storeys of arches and forms a magnificent symbiosis with its lush green setting.
  • Aigues-Mortes displays a particularly well-preserved range of architecture of a real medieval fortress with its ramparts, fortified doors, twenty towers and wall-walk. The Constance Tower offers a beautiful view of the vast expanses of the Camargue.
