The Experience

The gates glide open to a gravelled sweep and a tree’d lawn, with an old stone cider press to the side. Elegant, compassionate Isabelle looks after house, garden, guests – and rescue cats and horses – with warmth and charm; Philippe, a friendly GP, fills the game larder. The barn houses two bedrooms plus a delightful family suite under the rafters (up a steep private stair) and a cosy guest sitting room with a bar. Rooms have pretty striped wallpapers, seagrass floors and elegant Louis XV-style chairs, quirky objets on shelves and in crannies, beds dressed with white heirloom spreads. Vivacious, bustling Caen is an easy drive.

Reviews

Great bed and great breakfast! However, what really makes a stay sensational is the host - in this case, Isabelle; Flexible on arrival and was very sweet to my 8 year old son (gave him a football and a goal to play with) and gave me a liquid refreshment. We had to be up early - 6:00 to get the 8:30 ferry and Isabelle got up early to make us breakfast which was incredible - Cooked eggs from the farm / warm Croissant / yoghurt / fresh juice ...absolutely impeccable! Sawdays was invented for places like this and I couldn't give it a better review as it was so good!

Roger, ENFIELD

This was our second stay at La Ruette and it is lovely. The buildings are beautiful, the accommodation is great and Isabelle and her family are delightful hosts. Nothing is too much trouble and Isabelle's breakfasts are truly amazing. If you need a stop off near to Caen, or a longer stay in the area, you will not find anywhere more welcoming. Highly recommended.

Brett, Oxford

A very special place, with an exceptional host. The farm is beautiful and rooms are comfortable but it's all made exceptional by Isabelle's warmth and hospitality. It turned a stopover into a really memorable visit for the whole family.

Matthew, Bristol

We had a really wonderful start to our holiday in France at Ferme de la Ruette. Isabelle was very welcoming. The farmhouse was beautiful with a gorgeous garden and an impressive old barn where we watched the many swifts darting in and out. Our room was clean and comfortable with a great shower. We also had access to a kitchen / dining room with fridge, coffee machine, etc. Isabelle's breakfast was amazing and very delicious. Whilst we spent only one night at La Ruette, we would definitely stay again and can highly recommend.

We received a very warm welcome at La Ruette. The farm is beautitular and the large family room suited our family of four very well. The room has lots of space and even has an equipped kitchenette. The breakfast, much of which was homemade was delicious and plentiful. The farm is within close reach of both Falaise and Caen.

Pippa, Reigate

We were completely charmed by our hosts and the accommodation. Stayed in the family room, complete with small fridge, table and basic kitchen facilities. Home made refreshments were laid out on arrival. We would love to return and bring our grandchildren as well.

Lorraine, Guildford

My husband and I stayed at La Ferme for only one night and it was a most memorable experience. The beautiful Isabel and charming Phillipe could not have been more accommodating from helping us with directions, to organizing dinner in Falaise and much more. The place exhudes charm and is an authentic example of an historical farm. The breakfast Isabel served was by far the best of our two week stay in France and overall is exceptional value for money.

We have stayed at La Ferme de la Ruette several times and will be doing so again in May 2022. Isabelle and Philipe are wonderful hosts. It is a beautiful building and the area is peaceful and super quiet. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. All of this is only surpassed by the terrific breakfast. Superb and excellent value, we cannot recommend it highly enough!

David, Birmingham

Absolutely outstanding. Wonderful welcome, delicious breakfast (fresh apple juice from the farm), cosy accommodation, very family-friendly. We would love to visit again.

Stewart, Dublin

A beautiful house, comfortable room, warm welcome and a tasty breakfast. A shame we only stayed one night. The house is half a mile down a tiny road Chemin Hausse

Alan, Guildford

Can't recommend it highly enough. Isabelle and Philippe are absolutely lovely and so hospitable. Lovely accommodation in a stunning setting. Thank you!

Clare, Canberra Australia

Many places call themselves special but this one really deserves the name. Madame is absolutely charming, elegant and generous. We booked the family room and it was super comfortable. She also thoughtfully had bottled water and cold beers in the fridge which were all complimentary. The place itself is absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic with everything you could possibly want to eat on the table and lots of it. Very reasonable price. The place is quite rural so don't arrive hungry as there is nowhere to eat locally. I feel so lucky to have found this place! GO!

Jennifer, Dublin

Perfect stay in a stunning location. Isabelle is delightful and made us feel totally relaxed in her gorgeous home. The kids loved playing in the garden and we loved our time there. So convenient for the ferry at Caen that we stayed again on the way back home. Thoroughly recommend staying here.

Adam, Hampshire

A wonderful welcome - delicious breakfast. The photos don't do it justice. Lovely atmosphere and wonderful hosts. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending it and will re-visit. Thank you Isabelle and family.

Jan, Stratford upon Avon

We had a lovely overnight stay, Isabel very welcoming. The family room worked well for the four of us and our 7 and 5 year old girls loved the see saw!

wise, exeter

5 of us really enjoyed our 2 nights stay and were very well looked after by Isabelle. A lovely farm. A good base for visiting Calvados.

David, Hayling Island

A lovely stone farmhouse with attached converted stable. Isabelle provided a warm reception, good conversation and a brilliant breakfast. A genuine interest in the guest and one of the best experiences in 40 years of travelling to France!

Andrew

This is a beautiful farmhouse with lovely gardens, and our family room was immaculate, and perfect for our needs. There is even a little kitchenette. Isabelle and Phillipe were thoroughly charming, and made us feel so welcome. The children still remember fondly playing on the seesaw, and looking at the budgies! We would recommend it absolutely and without hesitation.

Mark

The perfect place to start and finish our holiday in France. Very welcoming and helpful hosts, lovely comfortable room and delicious breakfasts. We could not recommend it more highly. Thank you

Antonia
