The Experience
A streamlined, minimalist interior is very restful and there’s masses of space in the living room, plus a big terrace, lawn for games or sprawling, handsome garden furniture and barbecue for al fresco meals. Your views are to the manor house façade, you’ll only hear country peace and birdsong.
Wander to the open-air heated pool, hidden behind hedging and trees to cool off, hop down to the cellar for a private sauna, cook up a storm in the modern, well-equipped kitchen, eat outdoors or in the open-plan dining area – even if you are a party of 11, you’ll never feel on top of one another. Escapees who want to watch TV will find a separate mezzanine seating area.
The château can arrange historical visits. Built in 1290 and with a listed park of 12 hectares, including some remarkable trees, it is still very much a family home for the owners. You can even get married here if you choose. Peaceful en suite bedrooms have a Scandi feel and all have lovely views over the front terrace.

Location
The neighbourhood
The neighbourhood It's peaceful here, surrounded by mainly flat fields, plains of cereal crops interspersed with fine woodland – it's just the ticket for walks and cycles. The local village is just 2km away – more of a hamlet, but with an ancient church. Restaurants and shopping are 15-20km away, so stock up well when you're out. The closest train station is at Bernay, 20km and the ferry is 96km.
Local points of interest from Maïté
- Bernay, 20km, lovely town with a market on Saturdays.
- Château de Beaumesnil, 13km.
- Château de champ de Bataille, 40km, has lovely gardens (little Versailles!).
- Deauville and Honfleur on the coast are about an hour's drive.
- Normandy's D-Day landing beaches are around 2 hours' drive.
