The Experience

The pretty little hotel-restaurant stands in one of Charente’s most beautiful medieval villages. American Diana brings her professional experience; Dominique, a fully-fledged French wine expert and dealer, will suggest the perfect bottle be it for dinner or a big event, simple or organic, for connoisseurs or big budgets. The public rooms, rebuilt round old flagstones and beams, are decorated in warm natural colours to enhance the beauty of the original architecture. Bedrooms, some big, some smaller, have intriguing and individual details; rafters for those under the roof, high ceilings and beams or rough terracotta floors for others; none are overdone and all have sparkling bathrooms. The varied menu focuses on traditional dishes and local and seasonal produce, served when possible on the pretty terrace alive with wisteria and roses, hydrangea and geraniums… Masses to see and do: the Valley of the Frescoes including the Abbey at St Savin (UNESCO), the markets of medieval Chauvigny and Loches, the superb Parc de la Brenne for birds, turtles and orchids, Poitiers… or the quiet wonders of nature in the nearby valleys.

Local points of interest from Dominique Fuscien & Diana Hager

  • IMPORTANT: COVID-19 has obliged us to an abrupt STOP. We are at WAR, they say. And ROSIE the RIVETER was too! She chipped in, she ventured into the unknown, she traded her skirts & casseroles for pants & machines. And she said: WE CAN DO IT!
  • Check out Rosie’s song on Youtube, get up & dance, get inspired. What can you do? Use this challenging time to your advantage, to OUR advantage. WE CAN COME OUT STRONGER…prepared, durable and good again.
  • Be it moral support to loved ones or strangers saving lives…WE CAN. Get rid of those bad (negative?) habits…WE CAN. Unify, fight & learn together. Dare to think differently and ADAPT.
  • But stay-in, take all precautions, this time doesn’t have to be a torture. How many times have you said: “If only I had the time!” Make room in closets by preparing unused / unwanted belongings for charity, write some snail-mail or email, fix those things
  • Here at the Lyon d’Or, we are here, applying ourselves to welcome you again with the limited resources available: time & energy. We are doing what we can to make this little auberge ready to welcome you again, to help you take responsible vacations.
  • It is time for us to get a little “Rosie”…ROSIE did it! WE CAN TOO! We are here for any questions and look forward to seeing you all again. Diana & Dominique
