The Experience

The pretty little hotel-restaurant stands in one of Charente’s most beautiful medieval villages. American Diana brings her professional experience; Dominique, a fully-fledged French wine expert and dealer, will suggest the perfect bottle be it for dinner or a big event, simple or organic, for connoisseurs or big budgets. The public rooms, rebuilt round old flagstones and beams, are decorated in warm natural colours to enhance the beauty of the original architecture. Bedrooms, some big, some smaller, have intriguing and individual details; rafters for those under the roof, high ceilings and beams or rough terracotta floors for others; none are overdone and all have sparkling bathrooms. The varied menu focuses on traditional dishes and local and seasonal produce, served when possible on the pretty terrace alive with wisteria and roses, hydrangea and geraniums… Masses to see and do: the Valley of the Frescoes including the Abbey at St Savin (UNESCO), the markets of medieval Chauvigny and Loches, the superb Parc de la Brenne for birds, turtles and orchids, Poitiers… or the quiet wonders of nature in the nearby valleys.

Local points of interest from Dominique Fuscien & Diana Hager

  • Flash info...the city of LYON is NOT nearby to our Lyon d'Or in charming Angles sur l'Anglin (Poitou-Charentes) "Lion" became "Lyon" some time ago. Come see us & we'll explain why we are the "Lyon d'Or" a nice 6 hour drive from Lyon!
  • We are however centrally located! -3.5 h. south of Paris & Caen -2 h. east of La Rochelle & La Roche sur Yonne -3.5 h. north of Bordeaux, Bergerac & Clermont Ferrand -1.5 h. north of Limoges -3 h. south-east of Nantes-Angers Tucked away, but worth a stay!
  • Like the great outdoors, ornithology, hiking, biking, climbing & all that accompanies such activities? Signposted trails heading out from the hotel offer days of adventures...not to mention the Parc Naturel Régional de la Brenne and its observatories!
  • More into art, architecture & history? UNESCO Abbaye de Saint Savin is a must along with the Valley of the Frescoes. Why not the Musée de la Préhistoire-Grand Pressigny, the museums in Poitiers, medieval Chauvigny, Azay le Ferron-château & gardens & more!
  • More futuristic? Then Futuroscope it is! A 1 h. drive but the calm, quaint confort of this charming small hotel will help each member of the family find a little ounce of gold at the end of a busy Futuroscope day! Buy tickets in advance to avoid lines...
  • Looking for something original to bring along to the friends with whom you'll be staying? Why not a bottle (or two) of a very good local or not so local wine that you were able to savour over dinner...and hopefully like :) Dominique can guide you.
