The Experience

A faultless Provençal house for big families or groups: pale green shutters frame south-facing windows, the garden is lovely and the pool is perfect for lounging. The owners have overseen the restoration and extension of their 1850s semi-detached farmhouse; Caroline, formerly a cookery book editor, has thought of everything for the fabulous marble-topped kitchen and she’s the visionary behind the garden while Jeremy, a modern art curator, has lined the walls with carefully chosen contemporary pieces. The floodlit living room has a good mix of modern furniture and antique finds from local markets. All the bedrooms (one down, four up) are large with calming tones and splashes of colour in the headboards; old tiles and beams have been kept where possible. Bathrooms (three en-suite) are swish and luxurious. Savour long lazy convivial meals (inside or out) after stocking up at the excellent Wednesday market at St Remy de Provence, a ten-minute walk. And you’ve got Aix, Marseille and Nîmes all within striking distance.

Reviews

Thomas, New York

Stunning, elegant, welcoming, convenient, first-class. These are among the initial sentiments reflecting on just our first day of ten marvelous days at this magnificent house and setting. And it only got better. The house was beautifully restored so that it combines the quaintness of a farm house with the modern conveniences of a long stay. Our hosts were very organized, welcoming and most gracious. The pool, the garden, the location and the conveniences of the house allowed us to enjoy Saint Remy and it’s environs yet relax and enjoy each other’s cherished company. Thank you!

We stayed at Mas Des Reves for 2 weeks in early August with our 3 children aged 10, 8 and 5. What an amazing house . The renovation is incredible and the garden is so wonderful with the pool and surrounds just perfect. The distance to St Remy town was perfect for collecting croissants in the morning or walking off dinner! A fabulous time had by all and we loved the house and surrounds so much / highly recommended !

Absolute perfection. The garden is unbelievably beautiful; inside the house is incredibly stylish, comfortable and well kitted out; the pool is a delight; and it's a fifteen minute walk across butterfly laden fields to St Remy town. Mas Des Reves is the type of faultless place one never expects to find. Caroline and Jeremy made their home feel like our home, and we wholeheartedly intend to revisit.

Marina, London

Mas de Reves is an idyllic holiday home - peaceful and secluded, yet only a 15 minute walk to the charming and lively town of St Remy. The house is beautifully decorated and feels very luxurious, with an elegant and spacious living area downstairs, and comfortable bedrooms upstairs. We loved sitting inside or outside and looking at the pretty, flowery garden. There is a field with horses just behind the house, which was particularly exciting for our toddler. The pool was great too. The owners and housekeeper were very helpful and kind, and we hope to visit again!

Local points of interest from Caroline Schuck & Jeremy Lewison

  • Saint Rémy de Provence is set in the heart of the national park, 20 minutes drive from Avignon TGV station. It is beautiful walking and cycling country.. Real paradise is our 1.5 hectares of garden, with bird life, flowering shrubs and meadows.
  • There is a range of delicious local produce available, much of it organic. Cheeses, fruit and veg, wine, chocolate, pastries and other things. There are local shops and boutiques, a large Intermarche and Alpilles Bio, an extensive organic supermarket
  • You can visit Glanum just outside Saint Remy, an important Roman ruin. Next to it is the picturesque asylum where Van Gogh stayed. Arles, Avignon, Aix, Nimes and Orange are also nearby. Drive 20 minutes to the Camargue and 50 minutes to the Mediterranean.
  • Stroll through the medieval streets of the birthplace of Nostradamus or spend your days visiting the local vineyards or olive oil producers and taste your way to heaven. The local museums are excellent and those in Arles, Nimes, and Aix outstanding.
  • You can hire bikes and take riding lessons. Visit the cliff top picturesque, medieval village Les Baux (10 minutes drive or 20 on a bike) where you can see the immersive art shows in the old Roman bauxite quarry and enjoy spectacular views.
  • You're 15 minutes stroll from a choice of restaurants ranging from the starred Michelin to the local bistro. Take a break from the heat in one of Saint Rémy's ice cream parlours or cafés. Or sit in the shaded squares by a fountain and watch the world go by
