- It's not really set up for children, though babies are welcome and a travel cot is available
- This is an early-to-bed sort of place: little nightlife nearby and most guests turn in early too
- The B&B is on a road with bungalows opposite rather than utterly remote, though once inside the gate it feels a world away
If you haven't been to this part of Ireland, you need to. It's off the beaten track, but all the more special for it, and Ciara's idyllic old farmhouse is the perfect place to base yourself. Barnahown was built in the mid 1800s and has been lovingly restored by local artisans. What shows in the detail is how much of a commitment Ciara has made to buying local and caring for the environment. You could end the day with a hot tub for two or drink in the garden, surrounded by roses and hollyhocks and watching for buzzards or pheasants – heaven.
