The Experience

Step inside this quietly elegant 18th-century villa and you’re met with soft colours, museum-worthy details, and a real sense of calm. Veronica, who lives here with her family, will welcome you like an old friend.

There are only three rooms, all en suite – two doubles and one that can sleep four – tucked upstairs or beneath the rafters, all thoughtfully styled with Renaissance touches, big beds and serene views. Downstairs, there’s a cosy fire for cooler evenings and space to gather or retreat. Come summer, the garden and infinity pool take centre stage, with shaded spots and sun beds for long, lazy afternoons.

Breakfasts are a daily highlight: generous wooden boards laden with Veronica’s homemade cakes and savoury treats served in the light-filled dining room or out on the veranda. If guests are around, Veronica might invite you to share a meal of traditional Mantuan dishes around the communal table.

Location

The neighbourhood

Mantua’s historic city centre, with its cathedrals, museums and grand Renaissance palaces, is a 15-minute drive (park outside the town and walk in). The 60-hectare Sigurtà Garden Park (40 mins) was once part of a 15th-century aristocratic estate (open March to November). Nature lovers will enjoy Mincio Park (10 mins) and Vallazza Nature Reserve (20 mins), perfect for birdwatching and wildlife.

Local points of interest from Veronica Furini

  • Palazzo Ducale is the fifth largest palace in Europe, the seat of government and residence of the Gonzaga family. A place that tells the incredible stories of the Mantuan family, in power during the Renaissance.
  • Palazzo Te, the palace of pleasures, is a representative palace of the Gonzaga family. Today nestled in a beautiful city park, it tells stories of love, power and unique in its kind, it is an unmissable stop in the city.
  • Mantua, city of churches between legends and spirituality. Discover the Duomo, Sant'Andrea del Mantegna, Santa Barbara, the Church of the Madonna del Terremoto, the Abbey of Grazie and many other wonders between sacred and profane.
  • The Mincio park can be discovered through walks in the greenery, cruises on the river and sports activities both on water and on cycle/pedestrian paths without forgetting parks and gardens.
  • Do you love street art? An entire neighborhood awaits you! Lunetta is a peripheral neighborhood of the city, which has used street art to redevelop spaces and raise awareness among citizens. An "en plein air" museum.
  • Mantua is a city with many events. Discover the city and take advantage of the many events to visit incredible places not always open to the public. Visit the museums of the city and discover all the monuments managed by volunteers.

Introducing

Veronica Furini

After swapping their busy lives in Milan for a slower pace in the Mantuan countryside, Veronica and Luca have poured heart and soul into restoring their 18th-century villa. Inspired by local history and Renaissance art, they’ve created a B&B where warmth, sharing and culture meet, and you’ll leave feeling more like an old friend than a visitor.
