The Experience

The stunning architecture with its large windows and outdoor spaces blends perfectly with the surrounding landscape and trees – even on rainy days you’ll feel connected to the great outdoors. In fact, the whole place has been designed to encourage slow days and quiet nights. There’s a yoga studio on the lower floor dedicated to wellness activities and you can let off steam in the Finnish sauna, or book a bioenergetic massage.

Bedrooms (three B&B rooms, one top-floor suite with a private balcony, and an apartment for four) are simple, beautiful and spacious, with natural materials and clean lines; bathrooms are all en suite with Fairtrade soap. Breakfast is served on the magnificent terrace: fresh yogurts and fruits, homemade granola, Etruscan breads and jams.

Float in the pool with its waterfall feature or relax in the jacuzzi, listen to birds, take a gentle stroll or a rugged hike through the gorge, hire bikes to explore, or swim in the river.

Reviews

I loved how La Forestale redefines luxury: not as excess, but as quality, time, nature and wellbeing, with genuine care for the environment. Its philosophy comes to life through every experience, from breakfast and wellness activities to exploring the Furlo and discovering the local products the area has to offer. A place to slow down, reconnect with yourself and experience with all five senses.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the middle of the Furlo Gorge Nature Reserve – walkers, nature lovers and artists will be very happy here. The nearest town is Acqualagna for shops, restaurants and other services. It's famous for its truffles. Urbino, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a 20-minute drive, there are good local wine tours and the Adriatic coast is a half-hour drive.

Local points of interest from Eric Merlin aka Don Merlino

  • La Forestale is a unique sustainable place in the Marche Region in central Italy a model of ecological renovation of an old barracks for forest rangers.
  • La Forestale is at the entry of the La Gola del Furlo natural reserve, one of the most beautiful gorges in Italy, so we have all the outdoor activities in preserved nature.
  • We have 3 airports within 1 hour of La Forestale: Ancona, Perugia and Rimini. Bologna airport is 2 hours away.
  • La Forestale is situated at Acqualagna (PU), the capital of the truffle (we are the only place in Italy with truffles all year long with 9 varieties) and of course the white truffle in October/November - we organise truffle hunting.
  • The Marche Region is reputed for its high level "enogastronomy": here you'll find incredible wine, olive oil, mushrooms and truffles, among other local specialties.
  • Total immersion in pure nature, a paradise of peace and wellness that combines design, sustainability and Italian gastronomy. A new experience for unforgettable holidays in the heart of eternal Italy.

Introducing

Eric Merlin aka Don Merlino

For Eric, La Forestale is first of all his home, which he genuinely enjoys opening and sharing with guests. Human connection is an important part of his approach to hospitality, and he takes a personal interest in helping guests make the most of both the property and the surrounding area. He only recommends experiences and places he knows and has tried himself.
