The Experience
Tucked in the tiny hamlet of San Gregorio, Marzia’s 1950s B&B is utterly charming, as is she. She’s restored and revived original features, collected pre-loved furniture, given the walls a fresh lick of paint and splashed out on new mattresses and sparkling en suites. The result is a calm, fuss-free and welcoming base to explore this captivating island.
Nature-lovers will be in heaven, Sette Fratelli reserve is on the doorstep, discover myriad bird and wildlife, canyons, peaks and valleys criss-crossed by rivers and woodland. Foodies too, Cagliari (25km) is chock-full of restaurants to suit the occasion or there’s a rustic local restaurant a walk away. Snow-white beaches are close, Poetto in the city is popular or zip down the coast to the stunning, near deserted Sant’Andrea.
Head back to your haven: all three bedrooms are simple and calming, breakfasts on the green-fringed terrace are homemade and delicious, Marzia is a gem.

Location
The neighbourhood
Walk to traditional restaurant, Su Passu, for a plate of Malloreddus, a classic Sardinian gnocchi dish. Otherwise it's a 10km drive to Burcei for more choice, or 20km to buzzy Cagliari. Discover its ancient Roman ruins and treasure-filled museums, escape the heat in shady piazzas, gaze at golden-hued palazzi and stroll along tree-fringed boulevards, then round off your day at the beach.
Local points of interest from Marzia Maria Sacchi
- Walk along the many trails of the Sette Fratelli Park, one of the largest in the region, and enjoy breathtaking panoramas and fanstastic wildlife. You can easily listen to the roar of the deers in Aug/Sep
- Drive along the almost deserted Orientale Sarda SS125 to reach the quiet beaches around Capo Ferrato. then, if you head south you'll arrive at Costa Rei beach and Villasimius
- Cagliari is just half an hour away. With its historic districts of Castello, Marina, Stampace and Villanova. Don't miss the San Benedetto Market with its tasty local products
- Conti Vecchi Saltworks. An extensive wilderness and a site of industrial archaeology, within a still-operational plant, combine to tell the story of salt, complete with vintage backdrops, immersive projections and a route encompassing salt pans.
- The archaeological area of Nora, the first Phoenician city in Sardinia (8th century BC). The Giants' tomb of Is Concias and the necropolis of Pranu Muttedu, One of the most impressive and important archaeological sites of Prehistoric Sardinia.
- Wine tasting and visits to cellars at Audarya, Argiolas, Lunalughente. Also cheesemaker for a day or visit to cheese factory with cheese tasting at Argiolas formaggi or Aresu.

Introducing
Marzia Maria Sacchi
Marzia left her fast-paced life in Milan in 2005 and gave it up for a slower island-style life in north Sardinia where she ran a Sawday's B&B. In 2019 she made the move south to be closer to Cagliari whilst remaining immersed in nature. She's happily settled in the Sinnai hills, near both sea and city, and continues to adore the island and its very particular (slow) pace.
If you are thinking of staying at B & B San Gregorio then don't hesitate, book it! This place is really special and Marzia is a wonderful host! The house and courtyard are idyllic. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The breakfasts are really lovely and original. It is in an isolated area but that's part of it's charm. It's in the heart of the beautiful little-known Sette Fratelli mountains, but a quick and easy journey from Cagliari. There isn't anywhere nearby to have dinner at the moment, but don't let that put you off, contact Marzia and she will help you.
