The Experience

With long views, and easy access to the spectacular Rieserferner mountains, hikers, climbers and fresh-air fanciers will all be enticed by this family-run hotel. Spend your days hiking, biking and skiing around the smorgasbord of mountains, choose from easy-going, flat routes to tough mountain passes for the fit and fearless, then return to pamper yourself in the spoiling spa or loosen your limbs in a yoga class.

Settled in a pretty hamlet the hotel has 29 country-alpine rooms fanning out across the site. Parts of the building date from the 13th century, the newer buildings house bright and breezy apartment style rooms. You’re beautifully looked after by Gabriel and his family who feed you delicious breakfasts and dinners, served inside or out, and hearty suppers, with produce from the garden and wine from the cellar.

Visit the lively town of Bruneck (15-min drive) and head east to the jaw-dropping Pragser Wildsee lake (30-min drive).

Location

The neighbourhood

St. Lorenzen village is a 10-min drive. There are many mountains to explore including Astjoch, Sambock, Plätzwiese, Moosener Kaser, Lutterkopf and Schönbichl. Head to Kronplatz for skiing (7km) - the best ski slope in South Tyrol. Hire free snow shoes from the hotel. South Tyrol's Pustertal Valley is ideal for cyclists: there are 500km of flat cycle paths and plenty of options for bike hire.

Local points of interest from Gabriel Tauber

  • Countless peaks rise up into the sky in Val Pusteria, surrounding the Saalerwirt. They’re waiting to be conquered. Summer-green meadows, dense forests and alpine lakes captivate hikers as much as mountain bikers and nature enthusiasts.
  • In winter freshly fallen snow feels wonderfully soft and gentle. It invites you to trudge through romantic snowy landscapes, glide on two runners or carve classic style over the 119 km of pistes of Plan de Corones, South Tyrol's No. 1 skiing mountain.
  • Enjoy various yoga lessons free of charge with our certified yoga teachers in the yoga panorama room or during the summer on our yoga terrace in the forest. Your personal yoga mat is available in your room.
  • Enjoy relaxing wellness our in our Natur-SPA with Finnish pine sauna, BIO-herb sauna and aromatic steam bath. Several times a week sauna infusions with essential organic scents from South Tyrol. In summer you can enjoy also our natural swimming pond
  • Weekly 1 wine tasting with our wine expert Gabriel Tauber (€ 15,- per person)

Introducing

Gabriel Tauber

The Tauber family have owned Saalerwirt since 1887 and are deeply connected with the area. They added the naturally furnished 'imHaus' rooms in 2015 and before that the spa, sauna and bathing pond. Gabriel who speaks fluent English, Italian and German, another member of the family, or one of their dedicated staff members are always on hand to look after guests.
