The Experience

The house sits in a small complex with two other houses, but you get sole use of the pool and gardens, from which you can see down the valley, over the village and up to the surrounding hills – it’s a glorious spot. Inside is homely with original pictures, antique furniture, plenty of books and two sitting rooms with comfortable seating, so even on a rare grey day you’ll feel relaxed. The kitchen is big and cooking will be a breeze; you’ll find a bottle of something local and you’re welcome to pick fresh vegetables from the garden in season.

Doze in the greenery with the scent of lavender, seek shade under the pergola or mature trees, slide into the pool with that view. There are two tables, one by the kitchen and another by the pool where you’ll also find a barbecue for long, happy summer evenings.

You can walk from the house through olive groves and hiking in the Monti Rognosi nature reserve is sublime. Anghiari is five minutes by car.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a lovely, quiet area but Anghiari is vibrant and bustling with a rich history, nice restaurants, a theatre, museum and good shops. There are festivals throughout the year including a music festival in July, theatre and dining in August, a vintage bike rally in October and the famous Bringoli festival in November. Sansepolcro, birthplace of Piero della Francesca, is 15 minutes by car.

Local points of interest from Lulu Primavera

  • Set in beautiful countryside close to the National Monte Rognosi park hosting many footpaths which can be enjoyed on foot or bike. You wont be alone as many animals have made this their home including deer, wild boar and fascinating wolves.
  • Weekly market in Anghiari held every Wednesday in the main square, Piazza Baldaccio starting at 6.30am when the first truck rolls into the square. Cold meats, fresh Vegetables and fine local cheeses can all be bought here.
  • Monthly Antiques Market in Arezzo - this fair brings together more than 500 exhibitors from throughout the country: paintings, books, historic prints, modern antiques, toys, porcelain, watches & vintage items. This is the oldest fair in Italy.
  • The Museo Statale di Palazzo Taglieschi, formed through the merging of numerous medieval tower houses, showcases artistic masterpieces and architectural elements from different structures and churches in the Tiberina valley.
  • Museum of the Battle of Anghiari, which was fought on 29 June 1440 between Milan & Florence. The battle is also famous for the lost masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci which has been the subject of theories for decades.
  • Each year on June 29 there is in fact the celebration of the Palio della Vittoria, consisting of a running race in which the municipalities compete. Very few rules apply and its quite an experience to watch.
