The Experience

Themed bedrooms are reached via a lift, all elegant with antiques (mostly bespoke or sourced from around the world), family history, books and photos, all with air-conditioning and heaps of style. You don’t need to budge for breakfast, which is brought to your room:  freshly-baked croissants, homemade marmalade, honey from the owners’ farm in Tuscany, homemade yogurt, local cheeses, 36-month home cut Parma ham and organic eggs – all served on Ginori china with silverware.

You’re looked after by enthusiastic Bonifacio who carries his artistic mother’s legacy – and Dad Massimiliano is still in the wings. Private cookery lessons can be organised, as well as massages, rental bikes and wine tours. You’re half way between the Arno river and the magnificent church and square, Santa Maria Novella, so within walking distance of everything in the historic centre, including the railway station for days exploring further.

Reviews

A Sawday's favourite of guests , Casa Howard is experiencing renewed spirit and energy with the arrival of son Bonifacio, while following the same principles as its origins - guests as friends, hotel service with the ambience of an elegant home, quality products. Hire a private guide, take a Chianti wine tour, hop on a bike for a city ride, move around like a local with the guidance of your host

Location

The neighbourhood

The pristine historic palazzo couldn't be in a better spot. Among the shops lining the street is the stunning Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella with medicinal herbs and perfumes made since 1612, originally by monks – you’ll find their soaps in the rooms. Walk to the Ponte Vecchio and up to Michelangelo square for the best view at sunset. It's a 10-minute walk to Trattoria Cammillo for classic Florentine suppers.

Local points of interest from Bonifacio Leonardi

  • Start exploring with a continental breakfast, served directly into your bedroom so you can enjoy it in private. It includes toast with homemade marmalade, honey extracted from our Tuscan farmland and creamy butter. Take a cup of Fortnum & Mason Tea.
  • Attentive concierge services mirror the philosophy of our Guest House in Florence. They are always available and willing to assist you in booking museum visits, horseback or quad-bike rides through the countryside, massage or tasting sessions.
  • It is important to treat yourselves with a relaxing Turkish bath after an entire day of cultural itineraries. This service is fit for up to 5 people.
  • Even the soap bars you will find in our bathrooms are perfectly in touch with the accommodations’ seasonality, providing fragrances that evoke appropriate sensations: mint soap during summertime and pomegranate-scented in winter. Made by S.M. Novella OffP.

Introducing

Bonifacio Leonardi

Along with his father, the place was created by Bonifacio's British mother Jennifer Forneris – an incredibly creative mind and daughter to Luciano Forneris – former director of Vogue and l’Officiel’s IR. Jennifer’s idea was to create a unique home-like feel for guests, but with hotel service. Bonifacio has now taken the reigns and, with a passion for both cooking and people, is putting his own creative vision into the next chapter of the Casa Howard story.
