The Experience

You’re in a quiet, residential area so you’ll hear birds singing and the agreeable sound of neighbours speaking Italian. Both apartments are snug and comfortable with a cheery design and elegant touches. ‘View’ has extra large windows and big mirrors so you take in the views and reflections of rooftops and trees framing the heart of Florence. ‘Heart’ looks onto Costa San Giorgio and Galileo’s garden. Spending rainy hours indoors will not be a problem.

Kitchenettes are modern and practical and you’re left a simple breakfast of coffee, tea, milk, biscuits and jam for your first morning. Bedrooms have generous mattresses and linen and more views so you can meditate on important monuments without getting up; bathrooms each have a shower, good lighting and ‘Frette’ towels.

A brisk five-minute walk down towards the Ponte Vecchio will take you to wonderful places to eat local dishes, try a hundred different ice creams, taste wines or shop. It’s a grand spot.

Reviews

What a lovely relief to reach these hideaway apartments after so much stimulation in Florence. Staying here is like nesting right above history. The views from each apartment are different – both offer something special. Max will welcome you warmly and lead you to just the right contacts and places, whatever your interests are. It's a hilly neighbourhood, but best explored on foot.

Location

The neighbourhood

The top of the cobble stone road is where the old gates of Firenze greet the Forte Belvedere. It's steep for walking but manageable and safe as so few cars drive by. A few steps away is Galileo's House and then the Villa Bardini and Gardens which are lovely. Try eating at Trattoria Bordino, the Cantina del Gelato and Signorvino. A 10-minute walk will take you to the trendy San Niccolò area, or head 300m the other way to the Ponte Vecchio and the famous Santo Spirito district.

Local points of interest from Frances Mugnai

  • We are in the centre of the oldest heart of the City and no distance between our Suites and the main monuments exceeds 2 and a half kilometres (about 15 minutes on foot).
  • Despite the location 300 meters from the Ponte Vecchio and the lively neighbourhood of San Niccolò, silence envelops these houses, and in the morning you will hear the birds singing from the gardens all around.
  • Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Garden and Santo Spirito district a few mins walking, Uffizi Gallery and Piazza della Signoria just in front of our window (over the river Arno).
  • 'View' apartment opens wide to the city and Florence’s most famous monuments; the Duomo with its dome, Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Croce and the Arno river seem to “leap” into the house through its two windows.
  • 'Heart' apartment is in front of the house in which Galileo Galilei did his telescope studies, and our windows overlook the small garden of his house across the street, where it is easy to imagine Galileo gazing at the stars.
  • You will find Max to welcome you, a family man, not an employee of an Agency, ready to give you all the information and suggestions about the city where he was born and where he lives.

Introducing

Frances Mugnai

Friendly Max, who manages the apartment, is the nephew of the owner Frances so it's all in the family. He especially enjoys meeting guests from all over the world and can help you with boat trips on the Arno, guided wine tastings, a day in the countryside, cookery classes, visits to museums and recommending good places to eat.
