A stone’s throw from Tavarnelle, down a country lane, this ancient farmhouse stands among vineyards, olives, cypresses and pines. Though the setting is secluded you are in the middle of some of the most popular touring country in Italy; on a clear day, you can see the towers of San Gimignano. Every view is breathtaking. Sovigliano has been renovated by the family with deep respect for the architecture and traditional materials. The self-catering apartments – one palatial, with a glorious stone fireplace – are most attractive, all white walls, ancient rafters, good beds and country antiques. If you choose to go B&B, the double rooms are equally charming. The big rustic kitchen, with a private fridge for each guest, makes it easy to meet others should you wish to do so, or a delicious dinner can be arranged. Breakfast under the pines in the garden, take a lazy dip in the pool, work out in the exercise area (children must be supervised), enjoy a pre-dinner drink. Vin Santo, olive oil and grappa are for sale. Signora is most helpful and will insist you return!
