The Experience

Come here for the simple life. Wake up to silence broken only by birdsong. Terraces shaded by vines invite slow breakfasts – local cheese, honey from the hives, and fresh fruit. Walk through woods of oak and juniper, maybe catch a glimpse of deer or wild boar in the shadows.

The mood is rustic and intentionally so: terracotta floors, old beams, thick stone walls that hold the cool. Two studios and four apartments are simple and calm. Kitchens are small but well equipped for basic cooking. Each has its own outdoor space for quiet suppers or wood-fired pizza. A garden supplies herbs and vegetables.

Swim in the natural pool filtered by plants, not chlorine. Watch dragonflies hover, frogs and tadpoles swim. And when the light fades, stay outside. This is stargazing country – no urban glow, just the brilliance of the Milky Way spilling across the sky.

Reviews

Julie and Alessandro are helpful and reserved and extend their love of a very simple life to their guests. They want guests to embrace the natural surroundings, appreciate nature and leave consumerism little by little along the very winding road to Refugio Seremus.

Location

The neighbourhood

Sovereto is just 15 minutes away, with a small supermarket and a few local restaurants. Head 15 minutes further to Venturina for larger shops, a train station, and more places to eat. Trails through the surrounding hills are lovely for hiking, you can enjoy yoga in the panoramic yoga room or just swing in a hammock.

Local points of interest from Julie & Alessandro

  • Hiking: There are many itineraries around us, starting directly from the Rifugio in our forest, or else near Suvereto and in the splendid stretch of sea between Piombino and Populonia.
  • Beaches: On the coast there are some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, such as Cala Violina, Baratti and the Rimigliano park. Furthermore, you can easily reach the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, such as Elba, Pianosa, or the wild Capraia.
  • Wine: Near to Rifugio Seremus passes the Strada del Vino which allows you to reach famous wine destinations: Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci, Suvereto, Massa Marittima, all places rich in cellars and wine bars for tastings.
  • Our organic products: On our certified organic farm we produce a top-quality extra virgin olive oil, and our bees give us a delicious wildflowers' honey.
  • Art & History: Stunning villages to discover: Suvereto, Massa Marittima, Campiglia Marittima, Sassetta, Bolgheri, Casale Marittimo, Castagneto Carducci, Castiglione della Pescaia...
  • Etruscan Heritage: The archaeological park of Baratti and Populonia, the stunning town of Volterra with the Guarnacci Museum with its important masterpieces, Venturina with its Etruscan baths.

Introducing

Julie & Alessandro

After meeting at a permaculture conference, Julie (who used to work in the luxury market in Paris) and Alessandro (ex digital entrepreneur) bought the 1860s estate in 2018. They live here nearly all year, slowly restoring the property, welcoming visitors, running permaculture courses, and sharing their love of wild, simple living.
