The Experience

Up the hill, along the winding track, through the olive and almond groves to a splendid old house in generous grounds with long views across the valley. Inside you’ll find beamed ceilings, good art and sculptures and masses of space. A large open plan living and dining room has a stone fireplace (logs provided) and the table will be set for when you arrive: a welcome hamper has local hams, cheeses, bread and bottles of wine.

Bedrooms (three on the ground floor, two under the eaves) are roomy with lovely linen and antiques. Cooking together is easy with a warming Aga and a wooden table for prepping – or you can hire a private chef. Above here there’s a mezzanine, perfect for teenagers, with a sofa, smart TV and twin bedroom with bathroom.

The garden wraps around the house so you can follow (or hide from) the sun. Organise yoga and Tai chi sessions out here, or Shiatsu massages; the new yoga shala overlooks olive groves. Enjoy evenings under the covered dining area with barbecue and table tennis.

Reviews

Gather the clans and come here. For sunshine, peace and quiet, a full-size pool, dreamy views, lovely walks and shady places to rest. Even in horrid weather you'll feel happy here with a roaring fire going and lots of interesting artwork, good food and much comfort.

What can I say. We have just spent a magical week at the Manoir which exceeded all our expectations. This is a family home which makes you feel as though you belong as soon as you enter it's stylish front door. Everything has been thought of so carefully and our group of mixed ages all found our own little special place. Although we hadn't booked yoga, sitting on the platform looking across the olive groves to the coast was spellbinding. We will be back!

Tina, Chicago

We had a lovely time at the Manoir. The house was just like in the pictures and everyone involved were so kind and helpful! The house was equipped and stocked with everything we could possibly need. The welcome spread of local food and drinks was such a generous touch! The weather wasn’t so great during our stay, but the house was big enough for us all to stay indoors, sit by the fire and just relax without feeling like we were on top of each other. We hired their recommended chef, Momme, for two evenings. His food was divine and he was so kind. We’d love to come back and visit again soon!

Kristian, Gentofte, Denmark

Everything was just exceptional and suited our family perfectly. Great service all round. This is definitely not going to be my last visit to the Manoir!

Clive, Skipton

A group of us stayed at the Manoir to celebrate my 70th birthday. We had been searching for somewhere that was beautiful, secluded and yet not isolated, easily accessible and perfect for our get together. The Manoir ticked all of these boxes and ensured that we all had an unforgettable holiday with a group of friends. We hired Momme (the local chef) to cook for us – he prepared an exceptional and yet very reasonable feast for us. We highly recommend the villa, the area and, of course, the wonderful chef who happens to live just around the corner. Book The Manoir – you won’t regret it.

Location

The neighbourhood

A 10-minute stroll will take you to Sao Ramao for a restaurant, bar and shop. The beach at Fusetta is a 20-minute drive and here you'll find excellent fish restaurants and boat trips to deserted islands - take a picnic and stay all day, the boat will fetch you in the evening. You're half way between Faro and Loulé (15 mins to both) and good local taxi drivers happy to take you in and back.

Local points of interest from Tamar Ferguson

  • The Manoir is set in an elevated position between the coast and mountains close to the market towns of Loule and Sao Bras. Loule has a daily covered market which spills onto the surrounding streets on Saturdays. Perfect for fish, seafood and local produce
  • Enjoy yoga or shiatsu whilst staying with us - our Yoga Shala peeps across the Olive Groves towards the coast. Linne is a qualified therapist and is fluent in most European languages.....We can tailor make your experience.......
  • Visit Porches Pottery where you can watch the ladies hand painting their fired plates and bowls. The Pottery also has wonderful cafe with plenty of baked treats!
  • You can purchase organic home made produce via our honesty box! Momme - a local chef has put together some seasonal menus that he is happy to cook for you at an excellent rate! Have a night off and be spoiled by us.
  • You can enjoy yoga and tai chi classes in our newly built yoga shala. Where better to relax and unwind with breathtaking views across the olive groves towards the coast.
  • There is a lovely restaurant bar and restaurant just a 10 minute walk from the Manoir
