The Experience

Way up in the hills past small villages and lemon, fig and orange groves is this little gem – feel serene on arrival. Your welcome hamper is plentiful – spaghetti, wine and beer will make your first evening a breeze. Rustle up a pot and dine under the pergola looking out to the pool.

Days are for doing exactly as you please; yoga courses can be arranged; a masseuse can visit or just relax in the hammock and fix yourself your favourite drink. The smell of lavender, bougainvillea and plumbago will scent your time in the garden – sit back and take it all in. The Via Algarviana hiking trail passes close by leading to the west coast and Paderne Castle. In walking distance is a small stream; grab your swimmers and head to the natural pool and waterfall. Or you can take an afternoon trip to the beach.

If you’re not taking advantage of nearby nightlife, evenings are for opening a bottle from the honesty bar – and sharing the cooking in the outdoor kitchen.

Reviews

We had a lovely five night stay at Villa Stofero this July. The Villa is in a great location, has lots of space and is equipped with everything you could need. There are beautiful beaches nearby and the pool is fantastic. We loved the town of Loule and there is a small bar with a restaurant just a 3 minute drive away and our kids love the food there. Matthias was a fantastic host and gave us great recommendations. Sabina who looks after the property was also extremely friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend Villa Stofero for a family holiday and would love to return!

Norma, Dublin

Immaculately presented, top end accommodation. It is as represented in photos. Perfectly clean and presented, with welcome fruit, beer and fine Portuguese wine. Great little town with good access to motorway for all the beaches on the Algarve and West coast. Very friendly staff and owner, Matthias. He provided a long list of excellent restaurant recommendations and was on hand if there were any problems. Several terraces and beautiful pool. We spent many happy hours at the villa.

“Superb” is the one word which completely encapsulates our stay at Villa Stofero – simply superb. We were a party of five, three family generations. From our arrival to our reluctant departure, Villa Stofero more than satisfied our expectations. Matthias and Sabina were perfect hosts – we really appreciated their care and attention to ensure our stay was flawless. Villa Stofero was immaculate – exceptionally clean, spacious and well-equipped. And the location was just what we were looking for, secluded and tranquil close to home, with small towns and villages a stone’s throw away.

Location

The neighbourhood

Boliqueime is 30 minutes away; grab vegetables and meats for the BBQ at one of the supermarkets. A little further is Loulé with a daily market. Both towns boast quality restaurants - O Retero is recommended! A stroll away from your villa finds two restaurants - try the wild boar, a local speciality. If you time it right, there might be a local festival on - the Portuguese know how to throw a party.

Local points of interest from Matthias Gierth

  • Spend a night outdoors and experience the fascinating starry sky of the Algarve. In our out-door bed in the garden of Villa Stofero you will look at the sky and surely see a shooting star.
  • Take a trip to Loulé, this old picturesque city of art and culture just ten minutes drive away. You must definitely visit the old market halls.. In summer, every Saturday there is also a market with many regional products and art souvenirs.
  • How about an evening with friends in the bar of Villa Stofero. There you will find everything you need to mix delicious cocktails.
  • Don't forget to spend a day on the wild and stormy west coast to watch the surfers. From Villa Stofero, it's only an hour's drive to the breath-taking cliffs to the west.
  • The Portuguese love Tosta Mista. We know where you can really find the best Tosta Mista Just a ten minutes walk from Villa Stofero, in our village bar!
  • How about a leisurely Sunday morning with life music in a bar right on Villa Stofero's house beach, Praia do Almargem, just a 20-minute drive away. Enjoy a coffee, a glass of vino verde or a cold beer at BJ's Oceanside, look out to the sea and start dreaming!

Introducing

Matthias Gierth

Matthias (a journalist who has travelled all over the world) first came to Villa Stofero as a guest and was immediately enchanted, He’s a happy host, keen to show guests the magic of the villa and very much enjoys meeting people and hearing their stories. He hopes you enjoy the beauty and silence of this place, the friendly locals and the great food.
