The Experience
Built in 1879, the house sits just off the Plaza Mayor in Zahara, a breathtaking pueblo blanco perched on a rocky crag in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Steep cobbled streets and narrow winding alleys speak of its Moorish past, and the village is dominated by a 13th-century castle – views soar to the reservoir from the terraces of the house. Inside it’s cool and contemporary, with much luxury, from beautifully dressed beds and a very well-equipped kitchen, to a projector for films, chess and other games, art books and a chimenea with logs supplied.
Outdoors, there’s a barbecue area with stairs leading up to the pool – not huge, but very welcoming when it’s hot. From here you’ll listen to village life, children playing, church bells ringing and some rapid Spanish.
Drive ten minutes to swim in the freshwater lake, step out to superb local restaurants and cafés; walking tours can be organised plus visits to local sites.

Location
The neighbourhood
Exploring the village itself will be a joy, with lots of vibrant places to eat. You're right next door to the 16th-century church of Santa Maria de la Mesa, and right at the summit you'll find the restored Torre del Homenaje, a stunning lookout point. The turquoise waters of the Zahara reservoir are lovely for swimming and you can eat there. Ronda has some very smart restaurants.
Local points of interest from Ekaterina Surina
- There is a natural park nearby with many hiking trails and a canyon of varying difficulty levels.
- Nearby, there are several beautiful wineries offering wine tasting experiences.
- Our region is known for its incredibly high-quality olive oil. You can buy organic olive oil from local farms. During the season, you can also visit the production facilities, taste the oil, and see the process with your own eyes.
- The incredible city of Ronda is a 30-minute drive from our home. Seville is an hour away.
