The Experience

A great, relaxed place for coastal country lovers to simply unwind, with masses of space and separate play areas for young and older children. Swim in the safely fenced pools, barbecue in the shade of trees and climbing vines, stroll the Citrus Walk or simply sit in the herb gardens – don’t forget to take binoculars to see storks and raptors flying overhead.

Splash out on the largest cortijo with its two sitting rooms, four-poster beds and double-ended baths – also its own terrace and pool. The casitas are simpler in style and one has access for those with limited mobility. You’re near to many local beaches for surfing, the hiking and biking is superb and you can book up dolphin and whale-watching safaris.

Child-minding or an arrival shopping delivery can be arranged; a bilingual caretaker comes daily. Day trips to Cadiz, Tangiers, Seville or Jerez are popular and there are excellent restaurants, shops and markets a short drive away.

Reviews

What I loved about Finca El Sueño is the respect Sean & Tanya have for wild life. This is a unique and protected area and they have created a wonderful garden as well as an island that is now a nesting place for birds of prey & aquatic species in the marshes. One can either marvel nature from your terrace or wander around the 8 acres and take in the beauty of the place.

We had a wonderful holiday here with our nearly-3-year old. Casa Pimienta was very well equipped, beds comfortable, lovely cross breezes even in the heat. We loved the privacy of the gardens but also the chance to meet other families by the pool. Wendy house, slides, swings were much used too! Lots of fantastic beaches nearby with great lunch options. Loved Vejer and fish market at Barbate, El Palmar and Zahara. We're going back next year!

Kay

We had a lovely few days staying at El Sueno. The hosts were very helpful providing lots of information on the area, directions to the finca, places to shop etc. We stayed in Almendra and it was so quiet and peaceful. There were other people about although we didn't really see anyone and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The house is equipped with everything you need and is comfortable and clean. It's situation is lovely and the pool area was also very nice. We would like to return sometime as there is so much to see in the surrounding area. Good value.

This was a charming place to stay while discovering the Costa de Luz. If this place is available, take it!!

We've just returned from an absolutely wonderful stay at Alcornoque Casita with our two young children. It was absolutely gorgeous and we loved afternoons by the pool followed by evening BBQs on the terrace in our lovely garden. The local beaches are simply stunning - miles and miles of untouched golden sand which took our breath away. The local town of Vejer was beautiful with lots of fabulous restaurants. We had a really relaxing stay and are already planning to go back next year.

Location

The neighbourhood

There’s something of a wild west feel as you approach: past the Dehesa Montenmedio - with its natural parklands including golf course, Modern Art Centre and equestrian events - through the agricultural hamlet to the road’s end and the contrasting family-friendly finca with its fuss-free vibe, rich foliage and sea marsh views. It’s 4km to a good meal at the Venta Batato in Barca de Vejer, just short of the UNESCO hilltop Vejer de la Frontera, with all its tapas bars, restaurants and shops.

Local points of interest from Tanya and Sean

  • Some of the best undeveloped beaches on the Costa de la Luz are minutes away, from wide sandy family beaches to mud baths & secret coves. Explore the coast between the seaport of Tarifa to cultural Cadiz - Bolonia with Roman ruins & sand dune is a must.
  • Our 'Helping Hands' include children items, additional housekeeping, bilingual childminder & shopping service. Foodies can enjoy local cookery courses, wine/sherry tasting and tapas tours - with bountiful local fresh produce in daily markets & restaurants.
  • Just 15km from North Africa, this is a unique corner of Spain. Savour a wealth of history & culture on your doorstep - visit one of the 265 regional ferias & carnivals, or explore the architecture of Jerez & Seville. Tangiers, Morocco is an easy day-trip.
  • Sample the wares of a bodega; escape to the hamman baths, relax with massage or yoga; treat yourself to a handwoven shawl, leather bags, basketware, Moroccan ironwork & bright pottery; brush up on your language skills or even try some authentic flamenco.
  • Tucked into a protected Natural Park, guests can cycle & walk from the front gates along new trails watching rare birds. Dehesa Montenmedio with its 18 hole golf course, renowned NMAC art centre & Sunshine Tour equestrian events is just a few minutes walk.
  • With a milder Winter climate, shake off the chilly blues & enjoy the great outdoors! Try wind & kite surfing; horseriding along the beach, whale & dolphin watching, migratory/bird watching, or a nature safari daytrip through Donaña Park by 4x4 jeep or boat
