The Experience

Step inside to cheerful rooms with soft seating, lots of books, a wood-burner and a homely feel. Under the wisteria is a gorgeous outdoor seating area with views over the pool and mountains – a lovely place to read a book, chat, sip a glass of wine, or eat. By the pool there is plenty of room for sunbathing on a lounger but you’re free to roam anywhere in the gardens and find a quiet place.

Bedrooms, one upstairs with its own terrace, one suitable for wheelchair users (there are ramps to all areas) are very comfortable, with air con and ceiling fans, tiled floors and pretty fabrics – it sleeps up to 11; bathrooms are fresh and light. The open-plan kitchen will please cooks and there’s room for joiners in – you’ll also find some local or homegrown food to welcome you.

The walking is sublime and you can set off along an old goat path to Órgiva in 20 minutes for bars, restaurants, shops and a Thursday market.

Reviews

Almond Hill House is a tranquil retreat for groups and families wanting to switch off and relax, with Granada only 45 minutes away. The garden is most pleasant, we could imagine ourselves relaxing here or by the pool with a book. The house itself has been completely renovated and modernised with colourful, bright and cheerful decor throughout.

Location

The neighbourhood

Stay put and simply relax. Or there are pretty mountain villages to explore, beaches on the Costa Tropical, Granada and the mighty Alhambra all within an easy hour's drive. Walk along marked tracks for wonderful views, ride a horse, play golf, climb mountains, ski in season. It's a short drive (or you can get a bus) to the white villages of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira.

Local points of interest from Kay & Becky Elliott

  • A secluded location just five minutes from town with shops and bars, fishmongers, butchers, local organic produce and well-stocked supermarkets. Historic Lanjaron, famous for it's spring water, local jamon, cheese and honey is nearby.
  • Wide choice of restaurants locally and further afield. Enjoy the Granada tradition of free tapas with all drinks.
  • Explore pretty white mountain villages – some of the most beautiful in Spain. Walk between them along ancient paths and gushing acequias. Further up, the highest vineyards in Europe have sweeping views across vines and almonds to the Mediterranean.
  • Join the local Granadino crowd on the Costa Tropical with its lovely beaches and chiringuitos, within 45 mins easy drive, for long, lazy seafood lunches. In season, enjoy the snow on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada Ski Stations.
  • Magical Granada is less than an hour away with its narrow streets and shady plazas for churros or tapas; the historic Albaicín and the must-see Alhambra.
  • Hire a guide for gentle hikes or climbing Spain’s highest peak. Ride beautiful horses in the mountains following old Moorish mule paths. Enthusiasts will love world class cycling all around the area.
