The Experience

A short hop from the coast. Wend your way up to El Monte Bajo – private and quiet, yet far from remote. Its sister, Al Ladino, is next door. Step onto the terrace: warm terracotta tiles and pathways lead to a beautifully kept garden with figs, lemons, bougainvillea. Skip down the steps into your cheerful kitchen to find homely knick-knacks and plenty of mod cons. The feel is one of real Spanish character, luxury and comfort.

You’ll find an outdoor kitchen with barbecue, sink and fridge and a lovely new shower here by the dreamy pool. Bedrooms are smart, white and modern with memory foam mattresses – a good night’s sleep guaranteed. Bathrooms are equally stylish: a sunken bathtub with garden views and a mosaic of natural stone take centre stage. Your welcome basket is generous, and brims with seasonal fruit, tuna, black bread, milk, red wine.

In cooler months the wood-burner will warm you and the pool can be heated.

Reviews

This is a perfect place for larger families or groups who want privacy and quiet whilst soaking up the all-day sun, reading a book by the pool, pottering in the kitchen or lazing in bed and taking in the views. It's very well equipped, tastefully decorated and has everything you need for a self-catering stay.

'as good as the pics on the website are they still don't do the property justice’ we appreciate the fact you and Oscar are just a call or text away if we need anything. it's been a fantastic week here in beautiful surroundings, and not forgetting the fabulous food Toni prepared for us !!

Jan, London

Just returned from another idyllic week here. Peace calm and tranquillity in a sheltered garden which has its own little micro-climate. Avocados, strawberries, custard apples and bananas all grow along with lemons oranges apricots figs and lots of salad and vegetables, all organically grown. The wildlife is constantly amazing with frogs toads Hawks squirrels stray pussycats with this time, a baby hedgehog sheltering in the cats bowl too! Words are insufficient to explain our delight at staying here again. We just know we are really lucky to have found it! Plus really caring owners. Delightful!

Alex, gloucester

A magnificent villa full of charm with an exceptional garden and excellent views. Set 3/4 of a mile up a hill, it is an ideal for a 'get away from it all' holiday yet easily close enough to the heart of Nerja (2 miles approx) and its beaches, if a more lively experience is required.

Eric, Newton Solney, South Derbyshire

Beyond the unassuming metal door set into a stone wall lies the enchanting finca that is El Monte Bajo. From the top of the steps that lead down to the covered terrace the view of the tropical garden, Nerja nestling in the valley, the sea and the Almijara mountain range is absolutely stunning. Once inside and from every viewpoint the property oozes rustic charm and character. This is an idyllic retreat that has been created with great care and affection, combining authentic Andalucian materials with ultra modern facilities. All in all this is a very special place. We look forward to returning.

Introducing

Dan Bowers

Danny happened across El Monte Bajo and Al Ladino more than 20 years ago and loved them for their unspoilt views, tranquility, clean fresh air and positive energy. Since buying the houses he's been rebuilding and improving them, all whilst working to preserve their old-world Spanish character. José Antonio is the caretaker and the local contact during your stay, on hand for anything.
