The Experience
How beautiful can a landscape be? The sweeping Cerdanya valley that sits astride the Catalan-French Pyrenees comes high on the list. Here, Marc and Lidia have dedicated themselves to reviving a small hamlet to sustainable life in the Cadí-Moixeró nature park. A pure, almost monastic farmhouse where slippers replace boots at the door, Cal Calsot is now thickly insulated and full of light, has chunky timber furniture, organic hand-woven bedding and good simple comfort. With zero clutter, nothing stops the eye as it sweeps out towards those heart-stopping views – there’s one from every room. Marc and Lidia live here with their two young children, run an organic veal farm alongside the cluster of sustainable businesses they have inspired, serve locally-grown organic meals and are eager to give you an unforgettable experience of healthy natural life in the high pure air. A dying hamlet lives again in a lovely valley and this young couple have made it happen. They have so much to offer. Come for the glorious hiking and great skiing, nip over to France or Andorra, return for delicious food and good company, and leave inspired.

Cal Calsot is a wonderful place! We spent there 4 nights and it was definitely not enough to discover the full beauty of this place. Not only the home location, surrounded by extraordinary mountain panoramas, but most of all its exceptional hosts, Marc and Lidia, make Cal Calsot a remarkable place. The home is very quite, perfect for a rest, with an unusual furnishings — pure and simple interior design at its best. And don't miss Marc's kitchen — his dishes are more than just a healthy and delicious food.

We stayed in Cal Calsot for just 1 night and as soon as we arrived we realized that this was not enough! We were greeted warmly by Marc and Lidia who showed us to our room in which the decor and the furnishings were thoughtfully chosen and incredibly homely. The breakfast was a delightful plethora of local treats including fruits, cheeses and homemade jams. All in all, Cal Calsot is a wonderful base for exploring the Cadi mountains or the Pyrenees (the photos don't do the location justice); just make sure the delicious home cooked dinners and local wines on offer dont tempt you back too early!

Local points of interest from Marc Garcia Garcia-Cairó
- Walk to Prat de Cadí, one of the most emblematic places in Cerdanya. A route that runs inside the Cadi-Moixeró natural park and ends in a broad meadow beneath the imposing walls of the north face of the Cadi. You’ll love the silence.
- Ride around Montellà on an electric bike. Lose yourself in extraordinary rural landscapes, authentic villages, escaping the noise of the roads, and discover the cultural values and the Roman heritage of Cerdanya. And without getting tired!
- For bird lovers, our local guide will accompany you to discover the high mountain birds such as Dryocopus martius, Tetrao urogallus and large raptors like the Gypaetus barbatus, Neophron Nephron or the Gyps fulvus.
- In Autumn, do not miss the craft, culinary and livestock fairs, like the La Fira de Sant Ermengol in La Seu d'Urgell, where you can taste the best local artisan cheeses and find handcrafted goods.
- And in winter, enjoy the snow at the nearest resorts in Lles, Aransa, La Molina and Massella, or an hour’s drive away, in Andorra or France.
