The
Experience

Couples will love it here, hidden away down a quiet lane and with a stunning garden. Sarah and Stewart, who live in the adjoining longhouse have created a bright and pretty space with big windows to let sunshine and rolling countryside flood in.Stroll to fabulous Cartmel for a treat of a meal at Michelin starred L’Enclume, pick up all you need from a plethora of independent shops and a micro-brewery or simply enjoy a pint at a riverside pub. There are gentle walks and some more challenging ones straight from the door. This is a generous place – there are bikes to borrow for free, back packs for picnics, blankets for outdoors, a good supply of logs for the wood-burner and wine to open in front of it. An even nicer surprise is the candle-lit courtyard with a hot tub – the perfect stargazing spot.

Reviews

We had the most wonderful holiday at Upper Crumble. The setting is magical and we loved waking up every morning to bird song and silence! The location is perfect for exploring some of the most unspoilt parts of the Lakes and is outside the busyness of the main tourist trail. Sarah and Stewart are such welcoming, thoughtful and hospitable hosts - with the most gorgeous garden. The cottage was completely immaculate, with the added treat of the hot tub bubbling away in the private courtyard - an ideal place for star gazing! All in all this is one of the best places we've stayed.

Upper Crumble is a superb place to stay. We enjoyed peaceful sunny morning coffees sat out at the side and glorious sunny evenings in the hot tub - perfect after a long walk. Towards the end of our week when the weather turned we retreated inside to the warmth of the wood burner. Heavenly! Sarah and Stewart are perfect hosts who had time to answer any questions and left us some lovely (and delicious) surprise welcome gifts - thank you! If you're looking for a calming countryside retreat but with plenty to keep you occupied close by, then this is the place for you.

Joanne, Westhoughton

This is a really comfortable cottage, beautifully fitted out and very peaceful. A great base for exploring the south Lakes. And the hot tub is a lovely bonus.

Helen, Ripon

Cottage was beautiful and immaculate. The bed was so comfy. The hot tub was fab, very secluded and private. Lovely views from cottage.

Janette, Wigan

An absolutely stunning cottage, beautifully restored with great attention to detail. The hot tub was the 'icing on the cake' ! Sarah and Stewart were very welcoming from the start and we had a lovely relaxing long weekend. Cartmel is within walking distance with 2 Michelin starred restaurants and lovely pubs. There are lovely local walks with beautiful views. We had a wonderful stay here and will be returning. Highly recommend.

We had the most wonderful 7 night stay at Upper Crumble this Easter. Sarah and Stewart could not have made us feel more welcome and have thought of everything to ensure your stay is as perfect as possible. The cottage is done to the highest of standards, with a log burning stove and a beautiful private courtyard complete with hot tub - a real treat after spending the day exploring the surrounding countryside. With Windermere a 15 min drive away, several great walks direct from the cottage and Cartmel a short walk along a pretty lane, Upper Crumble is truly a perfect retreat. Highly recommended

We have bearly been home 24 hours and we are missing Upper Crumble already! Sarah and Stewart are wonderfully warm people and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Upper Crumble has been lovingly designed and is perfectly formed. It has everything you need for a very relaxing and romantic stay. The location is peaceful (especially in the hot tub!) and you feel miles from anywhere yet you are only a short walk from the brilliant food on offer in Cartmel. A holiday in Upper Crumble is an opportunity which should not be missed.

Upper crumble cottage is a truly stunning property in a peaceful location. Sarah and Stewart were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. A lot of love and attention has been put into the design of the cottage rennovation. Cartmel itself is gorgeous. There are lots of lovely places to eat / coffee shops / gift shops. This was my first trip to the Lake District and I thoroughly recommend staying at the cottages. We will definitely be returning. Thank you so much Sarah and Stewart! x

Rachel, Lincolnshire

A gem of a place! So beautifully renovated with so many finishing touches. Perfect location - the tranquility being out of the village, yet walking distance to Cartmel. The hot tub was amazing & particularly therapeutic after climbing a mountain! Will definitely return!

We stayed at Upper Crumble as part of our honeymoon and couldn't have chosen a more perfect place. The cottage itself is beautiful and so well-equipped with everything you could possibly need. The garden is gorgeous and we enjoyed eating our breakfast in the sunshine (especially the morning we looked up to see a pheasant walking past! The hot tub was a fab luxury. We look forward to coming back!

Kay, Leicester

Beautiful cottage with everything one could possibly want - well equipped kitchen, delightful bathroom, log burner and a huge bed with pillows like clouds. Sarah and Stewart are excellent and helpful hosts. Cartmel village a stroll away and the majestic lakes an easy drive. There are loads of nearby attractions, the village has great pubs and if it rains, hole up and enjoy a round of Scrabble, provided in the box of goodies. We'd thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Jo, St ives, cambridgeshire

Kate, St helens

Cosy, comfortable and quirky .. with little thoughtful special touches which make you smile … you need to go to find out!! Smart shower room, and well equipped kitchen .. and super living space with a dining table by the huge window giving lots of natural light!! The gallery bedroom was lovely. We really liked the flowers and herbs right outside of our door …pretty and tasty too!! Stewart and Sarah are working incredibly hard making a special place for visitors, as well as a haven for wildlife; the gardens, ponds and cottages are a credit to them!! We didn't want to leave. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Upper Crumble cottage. The cottage has been restored to a very high standard and is a cosy, comfortable place to relax in after a day exploring. Cartmel is only a short walk away and has a good selection of places to eat while the lakes are only a drive away. I would highly recommend staying at Crumble cottages as I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

What's not to like? Upper Crumble is beautiful, comfortable, stylish. Should you choose to eat in, you can, with ease. Should you wish to eat out, there is plenty to choose from in Cartmel, which is within walking distance. You will sleep well and relax. The cottages are nestled in lovingly created grounds, tended to by Sarah and Stuart, who themselves go all out to ensure you have a great holiday in their home. if you can tear yourself aways from the immediate surroundings of the cottages, then the lakes are without a doubt a stunning landscape of natural beauty and great places to visit.

Kate, Edinburgh

A brilliantly well thought out layout that perfectly blends the original features with all modern amenities, the photos don’t do it justice. We immediately felt relaxed and at home and couldn’t have wished for a better location as wonderfully peaceful but only five minutes from the centre of Cartmel. We booked the optional hot tub which was fantastic after a hard day hiking and really did add to the luxury feel. Sarah and Stewart are also the perfect hosts as lovely to chat to and get some recommendations but left you with plenty of privacy to enjoy what is an idyllic romantic break.

Shayne, Nottingham

Excellent.Great location and very accommodating owners...

Pete, Manchester

A very nice cottage, tastefully decorated, nice and warm, helpful and friendly hosts. We will return

John, Beverley

We had a lovely holiday in this cottage. The renovation of a milking parlour is superb. Sarah and Stewart go that extra mile to ensure that you have everything you need plus the little luxuries.
