The Experience
Sitting in a large garden with peaceful meadow and valley views, this converted medieval stone and thatch barn brings contemporary comfort to rustic charm.
Inside, an open-plan living area under young-oak beams has comfy sofas, an electric wood-burner style fire and a handmade Shaker kitchen. Two bedrooms – one a king, the other a twin – have en-suite limestone bathrooms, and there’s a sofa bed if you need it. The friendly owners have kitted it out with everything you need – from boogie boards, crab lines and buckets and spades to board games and DVDs.
The heated indoor pool is a treat – glass bifold doors lead out to raised decking with views over the gardens and orchard. Kids will get a kick out of the playground with swings and a climbing frame, and there’s plenty of space to run wild or play hide and seek among the trees. And as if it couldn’t get more idyllic – a babbling brook winds through the garden (pooh sticks anyone?).

We had a lovely stay at Cider Barn. It’s surrounded by beautiful countryside and we’re able let our dog run around with complete freedom. The cottage is well appointed and we had everything we needed. The welcome pack for us and the dog was a lovely touch. Andrew was very helpful with suggestions for places to visit and to eat. Would absolutely recommend Cider Barn.

Lovely house in a beautiful setting. Low beams in bedrooms a little difficult to negotiate for those of us with mobility issues. Crockery and cutlery minimal for the four of us and bathroom towels need softening!! However Andrew and Emma very welcoming and responded very quickly for a minor temporary problem with hot water. Our favourite restaurant was the Crab Shell and we enjoyed our visit to Greenway. Altogether a good place to stay.

We've been in touch with Andrew Firth, who thanks you for your feedback. They agree that the barns are a little tricky in places for people with mobility issues and this is mentioned in the things 'You should know'. They agree that the bath towels will need replacing soon. They provide six sets of crockery and cutlery to keep things neat but they will ask other guests if they would prefer more – they can always provide more if asked.

What a find! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cider Barn. It really is a magical setting with peaceful woodland walks on the doorstep. The Barn was perfectly appointed with everything we needed. Our teens made the most of the lovely pool and appreciated the indulgent 30 degree water temperature! It’s a great spot to explore - we revisited happy memories on North Sands in Salcombe and paddle boarded at Hope Cove. Andrew and Emma were friendly, gracious hosts who triple checked everything was to our liking. We hope to be back soon - maybe for a little longer next time.

Introducing
Andrew & Emma
Hosts Andrew and Emma live in the farmhouse across the way. They recently swapped busy professions in Warwickshire for a new life in Devon and seem to genuinely love sharing their countryside retreat. Warm, hands-on hosts, they’re all about the thoughtful extras and making sure your stay is as relaxing and memorable as possible.
We had a lovely few days at the Cider Barn and would happily have stayed longer. The views down the valley are sensational and we were lucky to have the best autumn weather we could hope for. The heated pool is a fantastic asset and meant our pre breakfast swim plus all the miles walked along the nearby coast paths justified tucking into the local food, not to mention the delicious granola and scones provided by Emma. She and Andrew were great hosts. Recommendations: the Sloop Inn in Bantham and the Cove in Hope Cove were especially good for lunch.
