The Experience

Views swoop across fields towards Dartmouth and Dartmoor from the little lane up to the farm. Your neat first-floor annexe, tucked on the side of the owner’s Victorian farmhouse, is deeply tranquil with nothing but birdsong to disturb you.

Walks and cycles from the door will be sublime, but if it’s raining you can read, play board games or tackle a jigsaw – the little window seat catches the evening sun. Owls will hoot you to sleep in the super-king bed under pretty wooden beams – there are blackout blinds so you shan’t be woken early.

Spruce yourselves up in the sparkling shower room with underfloor heating then head downstairs for a restorative breakfast in the dining room: breads and pastries from the local artisan bakery, fresh fruit, homemade muesli and good coffee during the week along with cooked options at the weekends. Explore lovely Totnes, boaty Dartmouth or pretty Kingsbridge.

Reviews

After inspecting Little Wing at Ritson Barton Farm, I came home and started working out how to redecorate my bedrooms and bathrooms. I loved the way that Jane had transformed a room into one of comfort and charm. Friendly owners, beautiful scenery and plenty to do and see in the local area make this a wonderful place to stay and just relax.

We chose Little Wing for a last minute overnight stay but ended up wishing it could have been for much longer. The accommodation is very thoughtfully designed to make the most of the space and the bed is super comfortable. There are lots of little extras too but it’s the warm welcome from Jane and Richard and their generosity which makes this place so special. They served us a delicious meal in a candlelit dining room, were always on hand but never obtrusive and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with them. A brilliant place to stay in a lovely area.

Simply beautiful, Little Wing is luxurious, the attention to detail is very special, our room was super clean & really comfortable. The location is stunning, it's relaxing, with a lovely seating area to use as the sun goes down. It's a great base to discover South Hams. Jane & Richard are brilliant hosts, really friendly & helpful. Breakfast is in the farmhouse, which has the most amazing views. A great choice, including the best homemade bircher, we also enjoyed a delicious home cooked dinner. Thank you both, the best decision to stay at Little Wing.

Antonia, Hay on Wye

I absolutely loved our stay in Little Wing. Or hosts Jane and Rich were so welcoming and helpful in suggesting fun things to do in the area. Amazing what you can squeeze into a week when there is so much to do all around you! We snorkelled at gorgeous beaches, walked on the moor, went wild swimming in the Dart river, great shopping in Totnes and Ashburton as well as a spot of surfing and some lovely pubs too. The bed was so comfortable and the annex was really beautiful decorated. It felt really luxurious and everything was thought of- absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended!

Chöd, Hay on Wye

A tranquil and luxurious base to explore the best beaches, towns, the Moor and more! Or just to relax and go on countryside walks from your door. The night sky is incredible. It's all there. Jane, Richard and family are great hosts. We'll be back again, for sure.

Location

The neighbourhood

Little Wing is nicely remote, surrounded by fields and farmland, yet it's only two miles to The New Inn in Morleigh for supper – steaks are their speciality. Come for Dartmouth's Royal Regatta in August, music festival in June or food festival in October. Totnes has an independent cinema and interesting shops. Chilli lovers: don't miss a visit to the South Devon Chilli Farm in Loddiswell.

Local points of interest from Jane Ambrose

  • Little Wing at Ritson Baron Farm is superbly located seven miles from Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Totnes with magical Dartmoor being a only thirty-minute drive away.
  • Blackpool Sands (a blue flag beach) is regarded as one of the best beaches in the region. Perfect for swimming and long relaxing days. Just 7.6 miles from Ritson Barton Farm.
  • We have public footpaths from the house and can advise you on beautiful walks through serene valleys to villages and pubs, including a round-robin which takes approximately an hour and a half.
  • All year round we have a variety of birds. The swallows arrive in spring, have their young and seem to want to get to know us! The owls are so often vocal and the buzzards soar through the valley.
  • Totnes and Kingsbridge both have charming, independent cinemas and shops, along with a fantastic range of eateries. Dartmouth is home to The Seahorse, Rock Fish, Andria and plenty more, then there's the award winning The Cott at Dartington.
  • On a Wednesday and Sunday evening, if you like off-road running, join us and you will be warmly welcomed by the South Hams Hash House Harriers. It’s a great opportunity to get deep into the Devon countryside and always a great pub at the end!

Introducing

Jane Ambrose

Jane and Richard, both country lovers, have always enjoyed the South Hams. They moved here in 2018 and have embraced rural life with enthusiasm. They’re also sociable and love entertaining so running the Little Wing as a B&B is right up their street.
