The Experience

Oak doors open to a stylish contemporary interior, filled by light and space.

Under-floor heating keeps the slate floor warm on cool days, while the high ceiling helps the airy feel. A lime-washed staircase leads to a mezzanine bedroom of uncluttered simplicity with long views across the valley – and there’s a day bed for an extra guest. Stay on a B&B or self-catering basis, with breakfast ingredients delivered as you wish: local eggs and honey, organic milk, jams, good bread, muesli, granola, fruit and juice.

Beautiful walks start from the door – join the Cotswold Way, or cover the three miles to Laurie Lee’s favourite pub, The Woolpack Inn, Slad. If you fancy a spin, Stroud is a ten minute drive, with its famous farmers market every Saturday. Cheltenham and Gloucester are close, too. In summer, open the tri-fold doors and let the sun pour in; in winter, relax on the sofa, play games, read, or settle in to watch a film on the telly.

spotless, tastefully designed modern studio in the most beautiful and unspoiled village; Sara was attentive to all we needed to settle in for a few days of amazing walks; and we left with plenty more to explore at the next visit; highly recommended

Richard

Wonderful experience all round. Beautiful space, fantastic, friendly and helpful owner located in the most fantastic walking country. we took our dog and could not have been made more welcome. we will 100% revisit, simply sublime

Elaine

If you like the look of Mayfield Studio from the photographs then just go ahead and book. It's even better than it looks. Sara has thought of everything you could possibly need and then added a few more bits and pieces for extra measure! All of this and it's dog friendly too. We intend to return!

Sue

A lovely place to stay in a beautiful village. Everything the description said and more, and reality even better than the pictures. We loved staying here and it made the Painswick visit even more special.

Location

The neighbourhood

Painswick is a beautiful Cotswold stone village dating back to the 1100s. It was made prosperous as a wool town and is known as 'The Queen of the Cotswolds’. Pubs, restaurants, a cafe and convenience store are within easy walking distance. The Royal Oak is a five-minute walk, The Falcon and The Painswick Hotel are both a ten-minute stroll. The Cotswold Way passes through the village. The artistic town of Stroud is three miles away where there’s a train station and famous farmer’s market. The Regency town of Cheltenham, for horse racing and festivals, is ten miles.

Local points of interest from Sara Kirby

  • Painswick is a beautiful Cotswold stone village dating back to the 15th Century. There are fantastic walks from the village including the Cotswold Way.
  • The Studio is in walking or biking distance of lovely country pubs, farmer's markets, restaurants and cafés. There is safe storage for bikes and a hose for washing them down and bicycles and motorbikes can be kept safely at the property.
  • There are artist's studios to visit in the village and many festivals including the Arts, Science, Music and Literature and Horse racing which take place throughout the year in nearby Cheltenham..
  • The area is also famous for historic houses and gardens such as Hidcote, Kelmscott Manor, Barnsley House, Snowshill, Miserden and the Rococo Gardens which is in Painswick.
  • There are many excellent centres nearby if you are interested in antiques, vintage and retro furniture and collectables, I have lots of contacts and information!
  • If the weather is bad there is a television, board games, books and magazines and plenty of space to spread out and relax.
