The Experience
The upstairs sitting room is lovely and light with sash windows and deep sills making the most of the views, plenty of seating round a wood-burning stove and a study area. You cook in a sociable, country style kitchen with a sofa and chair for chatterers or helpers and eat in the dining room at a big table, warmed by another wood-burner – find books, scrabble, bread from the local bakery and basics for cooking in the cupboards.
Sleep well in peaceful bedrooms (one downstairs) all a good size and with pretty fabrics, deep mattresses and crisp linen. On warm days you’ll be in the garden, safe for dogs and unruly toddlers and with a lawn for a kick about with a football or lazing in the sun. A little pond is fun for gazing and you’ll find a barbecue, table and chairs at the back.
Just around the corner is The Crown Inn for great food, locally sourced and with regularly changing menus to reflect the seasons.

We had a wonderful week at the Yellow House and would highly it to others considering a holiday in this part of Norfolk.

The Yellow House is a fabulous base for a holiday in North Norfolk. It's location is ideal in that most day trips, whether to market towns, stately homes, or the coast, are no more than 20 mins drive away. The house itself is very well appointed - very much a 'home from home' rather than a 'holiday home.' Very comfy beds; good quality linens; well furnished. The garden provides a pleasant place to sit outside and a safe, fully enclosed space for dogs.

The yellow house is a perfect rental cottage. It is beautifully maintained and decorated, very clean and surprisingly spacious. We had a lovely time visiting the north Norfolk beaches, which are so easily accessible from the property.

Location
The neighbourhood
The walk along Holkham beach from Burnham Overy Staithe to Holkham is charming. The National Trail is made up of two long distance walking trails - Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path. Cyclists can join most of the Peddars Way or head to the Norfolk Coast Cycleway which runs from King's Lynn to Great Yarmouth. End the day with delicious fish and chips from French's in Wells-next-the-Sea.
Local points of interest from Sir Fred Cholmeley
- East Rudham is a quiet rural village with a great pub, The Crown.
- Close to the North Norfolk coast, with beaches at Brancaster and Holkham.
- Barrow Common, about 20 minutes away, is an unspoilt area overlooking the sea - a great place for walking and picnics.
- Go antique shopping in Holt.
- Don't miss the walled garden at Houghton Hall
- Explore inland and head for the Broads

Introducing
Sir Fred Cholmeley
Generations of Cholmeleys have managed The Easton Estate in Lincolnshire since 1561. Sir Fred and his wife, keen to introduce guests to the beauty and tranquillity of country life, have been running their Walled Gardens as a visitor attraction since the early 2000s. They live on The Easton Estate, and have holidayed in their Norfolk Yellow House since 2004 too.
A lovely quiet, cosy cottage. Well equipped and 30 minutes from the main beaches. We had one small issue with a downstairs radiator which was fixed the same day we mentioned it - excellent service. We expect to return.
