‘Portable symbols of connection’: A Christmas gifting guide from Claudia Bradby

Claudia Bradby

Jeweller Claudia Bradby creates beautiful jewellery that celebrates our connection with the natural world and the ones we love. As well as partnering with Claudia Bradby to launch our exciting competition, we asked them to tell us more about the inspiration behind some of Claudia’s favourite pieces and why they make a meaningful gift for Christmas.

Our designs are regularly bought as unique gifts for special occasions – be that a wedding, a significant birthday, or wedding anniversary.  And in particular our designs with written inspiring quotes, along with our honey bee collection, and our meditative designs, resonate with people looking for that extra special something. Jewellery has long been a portable symbol of our connections, which is made even more resonant if that jewellery has significant meaning behind it. And although we are probably biased, being pearl specialists, pearls fit this brief beautifully – not only are they the oldest known gemstone, but as they are made by nature, each is one unique, just like those we celebrate with the gift.  All our jewellery is tarnish free, and is 925 sterling silver plated with either rhodium (silver) or 18k gold (gold).  Together with our unique drawer presentation box it makes a very special gift.

So which pieces to choose?  We would recommend choosing something from our Jewellery with Meaning collection, to ensure you get just the right fit for your special gift.

For travel lovers

We have three inscriptions that are used across several designs.  Our very first inscribed range, ‘The World is Your Oyster’, has two beautiful pendants in different sizes, with two bracelets and earrings to match.  This motivating phrase is a sentiment close to Claudia’a heart, giving meaning to our jewellery, as well as being a central philosophy.  Design wise these pieces reflect a love of the sea, of travel, of open horizons and new possibilities. The pendant itself was inspired by an oyster shaped shell given to Claudia by her mother, from the beach in Australia where she was born.

We have two further inscribed designs. ‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams’ is an Eleanor Roosevelt quote. This heartfelt pearl pendant is a reminder to connect with what brings you joy and to be happy with your own personal dreams.  The perfect gift for any friend, or yourself, it will fast become your go-to daily mantra.  And our ‘This too Shall Pass’ range has this mantra inscribed on one side of our alluring pearl pendant.  The slightly irregular shape of the silver pendant represents the dips and heights we navigate as we move through life and offers some reassurance that everything does pass.  The free running pearl gives a lustrous feel to this simple yet elegant design.  A wonderful thoughtful gift.  And both these inscription designs come in silver and 18k gold plated silver.

For nature lovers

For those who love nature (and who can fail to fall in love with the raw nature on offer in Cornwall?) our honey bee collection is a wonderful gift to mark any special occasion. This collection features sustainable jewellery (all made with recycled silver – along with 90% of our designs). Designed to celebrate and support the humble honey bee this unique range derived from Claudia’s love for beekeeping.  To note each coin has a sign showing two interlinked circles to illustrate how we are stronger together, just like the bee colony.

For meditation lovers

Our Meditative range features our water inspired meditative spinning pearl necklace, and our chakra balance pearl hoops and pearl pendant.  These make the perfect gift for those for whom finding balance and peace is either an intrinsic part of their life.  The Meditative spinner, with its lustrous pearl that spins 360 degrees, is the perfect gift for those who like playing with their jewellery and is inspired by the restorative, and meditative, power of swimming outside; Claudia says, ‘Spinning the pearl allows me to feel some of the peace I find in the water’.
